Hells yeah! -- the linework on the left IS just the pencil work (done very tightly with mechanical pencils), only with it's levels darkened and tinted orange so it looked more henna-ish as per client request :3
And there were a few more scribbly sketch versions before that linework as well, to figure the compositional proportions and make sure it was mirrored-ish.
But I always just prefer to 'ink' final linework with pencils, since it's less stressful of f*cking up than non-erasable unforgivable ink. Plus photoshop can really crispen away the sketchlines, if you know how to work with it enough.

Well to convince him of the 'success' of the linework, I added a basic color scheme which also looked a lot less garrish/more desaturated when layered over flesh-tone in photoshop. Whether he was planning for the Tat to just stay linework or if it would ever be full-color was something he just wanted as an additional option once he could see the design transferred on his arm, and until the tattooist would weigh in with his two cents about the colors along with giving him a price quote. Full color tats are time-consuming for client & tattooist/ plus EXPENSIVE, especially on top of such intricate lines :[
He still didn't like any of it enough though, and never used it :\ I think it was either too girly lookin or not traditional-Indian style enough for him, blah.
It WAS very good practice for the quick progress & workflow of a finished custom tattoo design tho :3
