This is Snow Luna (up front) and Matt (in the back and lacking a surname)! 15 and 14 years old, respectively, and if I were to narrow the list of characters down to a bare minimum, then (for their generation’s part of the story, at least) these two’d be the Main Characters, probably

Snow’s the princess of the Lunars and ran away for a while because she wants to figure out how to shit to animal form and bring that info back to help give the Lunars and edge (and also she just kind of wants to get out there and Heck Things Up in person she’s sorta reckless like that)

Matt’s a Solar deserter who stuck w/ her because he was told that sticking with her would boost his odds of survival and Not Dying is A Thing He Would Very Much Like To Do. The decision to stick with her is one he ends up questioning and/or deeply regretting almost every moment from then onward. Matt is not brave.

Also wanna take this opportunity to mention a weird quirk bout these animal people: even for someone who’s never shifted to animal form before, it’s more common for their hair to be an odd-for-humans color that matches their animal form than it is for someone’s hair color to not be anywhere close to the color of their animal form, so it’s fairly common to see people like Snow or Kaito born with white or gray hair"

#matt spends most of his early portion in the story not fighting at all #and instead hiding and/or fainting #but to be fair the solars rly shouldnt be putting 14 year olds on the battlefield and he was p much intentionally set up to die on his first #mission because of some junk his older sister had done
