Weaknesses: His concern for others, particularly those he is directly responsible for, is his great weakness. One can also take advantage of him by guilting John in some regard.

Personality: John loves and cares about all of his friends, whom he considers his extended family due to being a only child, acting like a father figure to most of them, including Etrian. Compassionate to a fault, but he believes there is good in everyone and will try to bring it to the surface if he can. Sympathy and empathy run strong through him. He can be too trusting for his own good, but not too much as he has much at stake. He does blame himself for errors in the past, as well as any hurt or harm his actions may have caused, such as when he turned Etrian into a human-Valgarian hybrid. As a result of that, his guilt made him do the same to himself, in an effort to show he did not see anyone as test subjects and that he was willing to put himself through the same pain.

Background: John McCarter's story is long and detailed, but he was born and raised by his parents to be a good person and someday give back to the community and the world, even if that hope was faint. But little did they know how much their dear little John would end up doing that more than they had expected him to be able to.

After graduating from college, he and his best friend Lisa Khyber immediately started working on making their dream company while working side jobs. After many attempts and successes, S.T.A.R. Innovations was founded. The company grew and flourished, much in part due to John's ideas from high school working out when brought onto the big stage. Time went on, the company growing more and more before becoming one of the biggest in Coast City. Though it was considerably just home security at the start, it had become much much more.

As the company expanded and grew more popular, it started delving into other territory, including experimenting with a vial of alien DNA John had found in a crashed spacecraft back in high-school. This would lead him to adopt an orphaned Etrian and offer him the chance to become strong, like a superhero. And while that is a tale for another time, John later injected the prototype into himself and became a human-Valgarian hybrid much like his adopted son when his years were catching up to him. Revitalized and with a much more capable body, plus a few powers, he founded the Vanguard as well alongside Wenyan and Maple, although he doesn't go onto the field much himself, preferring to oversee the development of new technology to be used by heroes and the public alike.
