A stylized drawing of my character, Jester Cat. Though admittedly a little canine-esque...
This is inspired by an art piece by Umbreonstudios from Deviant Art made for me, for my birthday a couple of years ago:

For some reason, the art piece has recently come back to my mind, and I felt like drawing this rendition of Jester. At first I attempted to draw like the image, but I felt like trying something different, something a little more, well, exaggerated than I’m used to. It actually felt nice to draw like this, it actually did feel like drawing was fun rather than a chore. I may experiment more with this style.
But for the image itself, Jester is somewhat inspired by The Fool tarot card, and this is in the spirit of that inspiration (on top of Umbreonstudios’s piece). But, just for funsies, I’ve tweaked the symbolism around a bit.
On Jester’s left, he carries a small sack on a stick, supposedly symbolizing the fool’s minimal earthly belongings. Jester actually usually carries a side pack of sorts. Same difference, but the sack seemed more archaic. (Also I was too lazy to draw the side pack :P )
On the tarot card, the Fool carries a white rose-like flower, representing the Fool's purity and innocence. But as Jester has spent a good time traveling, the things he has seen and experienced has "tainted" him, as symbolized by the flower behind him (“leaving” his purity behind). You'll note that it isn't in pristine condition, somewhat “sad”, but it isn’t completely weak.
But in place of the flower in Jester’s hand is something that Jester himself values even more: knowledge, to put it simply, symbolized by a book, which he has has gained throughout his travels. I wasn’t sure what to put on the book’s cover. At first I thought of the lemniscate, which roughly symbolizes infinite knowledge, but that felt like giving Jester a bit too much credit. I decided to just leave it blank.
I’m not sure if I’ll actually keep this look for Jester, though it has sorta grown on me. I think I’ll tinker around with this look for the foreseeable future.
