Alright so I haven’t posted anything for a while, and this one has been sitting on my drive for literally months.
This is a character belonging to a good friend of mine, from a roleplay spanning several years in the early 2000′s. Though she hasn’t been used in a long time since, the character is still a favourite for both of us. She started out as a Houou anthro; after several years of teenage roleplaying and considerable power creep, anything resembling canon pokemon power levels was long left behind, and she is now something between a human, an evolution up on a Houou, something about two or three evolutions past a Pidgeot, and a minor goddess. (As a note, yes, I’m aware that Articuno are like 6 foot tall; Phlanix is probably about 40ft tall in this picture - size-shifting is a favourite trick of hers)
Back when we were still actively roleplaying, I was experimenting for the first time with drawing and I sketched up a picture of her, which was at the time one of my crowning achievements, one of the pictures I was, at the time, most proud of: https://www.deviantart.com/taranth/.....ystal-25762514 . When I was looking for new things I wanted to draw, I thought maybe I might try the old ‘redraw an old piece’ and, well… yeah I think I can pretty confidently say my drawing skill has increased significantly.
I took a week off work in Jan-Feb and spent probably two thirds of my waking hours during it working on this. My first human piece in a while (well, mostly human) and my first time in wings in just as long, my first time working on a somewhat softer shading technique and dear god that hair took two days in and of itself… can’t say I didn’t learn a lot out of it though =D
The pose was set to be much more dynamic, the environment… well, there was to be an environment, shadow, wind; the reason this wasn’t posted until now is that I do intend for there to be a background as well, as she hikes to carry the injured Articuno back to its nest; this turned out to be a hell of a lot of work and while progress has been made on it, I’m putting it off until I can make it match the rest of the image for quality.
However, since I’ve had practically no time for drawing lately, let alone focusing on learning whole new strategies for outdoor backgrounds, I just want to get this piece out there and seen… so while there will surely someday be a completed version of this, this is what’s there for now.
I need to get back to drawing already…
