SAPPHIRE: Symbol of peace, celestial harmony, self-control and truth. In some parts of the world, sapphire stones were thought to ward off evil.
This is part of a Precious Stones series I started in order to jump start my muse again. I am being didactic with the theme by linking the idea of the precious stone to the animal represented; in order to emphasize that animals are precious aswell. It bothers me how ignorant people tend reduce animals to the levels of objects. In the end, I think that we are not so special. Bottom line, we are animals too.

First, it's a very beautiful piece. I love the symbolic sapphire eyes also. It's true that tiger (tigress?) looks peaceful. Like a wise one. Those tigers are awesome, and sure they deserve protection - and protection for their environment also.
Then, there aren't only animals that are considered as object. For some reason, I often associate to old trees, and I always feel sad when certain trees are cut. And, btw, I also like when other artists illustrate hyenas with symbolism.
As for humans being an animal species, it's just the biological truth: we ain't superior to any other species. And I'd even say we're a pretty fucked-up species, the first one able to damage environment to the point of being a menace for our planet.

The tigeress is so impressively beautiful. I enjoy the deep ice blue in the jewels and eyes, the pink-red ochre colors in her lips and nose, the red stripes and toasty grayish white fur. The fur and whiskers stand out very realisticly as the rest of the tigeress. It's a very goergous picture.
Beautiful! I knew this would turn out gorgeous!
Though I hope you don't mind a little suggestion? This piece could really pop with some emphasized shadows and highlights. Get some real contrast between dark and light. A good way to play with it is put it in photoshop (or whatever editing program you've got), and make it grayscale. Then you really get a sense of the depth or lack there of a piece has. Tip given to me by an art teacher back in the day.
But seriously, great work. I should try working at a smaller size like that. 9x12 bristol gets overwhelming for me.

oh god yeah, i know. I suck majorly at lighting. In my progress pics, i added it. but it was never dark enough to really pop the way i wanted 9.9 (partly because im chicken and partly because i have no idea what im doing in the first place)
Ill try that, thanks.

i could :)
But what i tried with thumbs here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3146681/ , probably wont be that much different in photoshop XD
I just need to understand the concept of light and shade when applying it to whatever it is im drawing.. At least theirs a undo button there.

I think this is by far one of your best pieces (apart from European cave Lion which is my personal fave), you have become such an amazing artist. I'm really liking this jewel theme, I have never seen it before. Like, EVERYONE does elemental or colour or horoscope themes but this is new, atleast to me. Also a GREAT choice of tiger colou, I absolutely adore white tiger with brown stripes! They remind me of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. <3
thank you for all the compliments :)
im selling the original of that piece (cave lion) soon at like a starting bid of 5 bucks. I don't think much of it as I don't feel it is technically my best illustration =P But If you like it that much, i am glad.
the theme idea came to me when looking at big cat eyes. :)

U are selling it!?!?!? Oh my gods. I so wish I could have a Paypal or anything similar to it. Seriously I'm so angry at myself right now, I have been ponderin' around how and when to get Paypal way too long. I have absolutely no clue how to use it or even get it. I'm a terrible geek but I suck at technology...
But you are right, Cave Lion is not -technically- your best illustration, not even close, but that particular piece just strokes my soul in all the right places (LOL I have no idea how to express my feelings to that piece, plus I suck at English). I love prehistoric creatures, the bigger and fiercer the better. Big, massive, arctic (well those lions aren't actually ARCTIC but you get the idea) creatures are very close to my heart. <3 Sure, the background doesnt have as much details as your other pieces, but still it is a great work of art. Less is more as they say.
Okay I've been yammerin' for too long now. And not even of this piece! I bet you are bored on getting comments of your older work and want comments to your new works. ^^'
Okay, have a nice Christmas!
PS. Will all the animals in this jewel series be tigers? If so, would be awesome to see a pseudomelanistic (black) tiger. I haven't seen much art of them, actually all which I've seen are made by Ebony Tigress or of her character.
PPS. SHIT I'M STILL YAMMERING!

yes I am. :)
paypal is not so hard to set up. I did it when I was much younger(16), so I do not recall exactly how to do it. but i am sure the instructions are clear and straight forward.
You will most likeyl need a debit card , your credit card or your bank account number so they can tie the account to your bank account at home(for money transfers). If you lived in Canada, I could have had you send a money order, but otherwise foreign money, checks or anything of that sort just costs me money rather than helps me accumilate money. Which defeats the purpose. That is why I only accept paypal from other countries apart from canada.
Thats fine :) You are entitled to like it either way! I dislike almost everything I draw at one point, thats a normal thing to happen for an artist whos open to improvement.
I dont mind rambling :) , I do it enough myself.
No, they will not all be tigers. Whereas they are beautiful animals, they are not diverse enough to help my suit them to a stone. I am thinking they will be big cats that I feel suit each gem I choose, for multiple reasons. Big cats because this series is meant to spark my muse again, and I jhave a lot of fun drawing cats. Secondly, because the idea was initially inspired by the eyes of big cats.

Oh well in that case I really hope you'd do a cougar, they are so lovely but for some reason not very popular. <<<<<<<<<<<<<well <i'm havin' some difficulties with getting Paypal because I'm Finnish and the whole site is in English and I'm not familiar with all the terms..
Incredible! Your attention to detail is mind-blowing, and I especially love both the richness and contrast of your blues! The nose is also extremely well observed, with the fleshy parts fading into an organic dark where the shadows would fall. There is a sense of wetness to the nose as well!
After noticing the WIP in your scraps, I must say, I've learned a lot! I always supposed that the delicate white highlights and whiskers were accomplished with frisket or precise masking! XD

thank you :)
Im glad you have learned, I like showing people what I can :)
Haha id go nuts if I were to do it that way. You simply add a bit of workable fixative so the rbush doesnt drag the pigment, then add the whiskers ontop with acrylics and a thin brush! :)
