A One of two commissions I won from Ania (Aka Babyjami) in 2005. The IRC group this girl belongs to no longer exists.
She's a tortured soul, having seen everything around her burned to the ground in an orbital bombardment of missiles leaving little behind but burning ruins. Her mind broke under the trauma as even her husband was taken from her, leaving her pregnant and wandering the ruins for months trying to survive off of anything that was left behind in the rubble be it canned goods or whatever was sitting around that happened to be meat or vegitable. And for a while the enemy wasn't aware of her activity, leaving her to her own devices and the onset of psychosis until 8 months after the attack.
When the enemy moved in and tried to set up a base camp in the ruins of the city, they found out they werent alone when their scouts didn't come back. Search parties soon found the half-eaten corpses of their scouts and a pregnant woman in rags snarling at them with a bloody shard of torn metal as her weapon. Having come in force, she was subdued and transported off the planet immediately, and her unborn child delivered surgically in a proceedure that was briefly interrupted by the sedatives wearing off faster than they wanted.
Working off the capability she displayed in catching people unaware and putting her child in a nursery to become a future soldier, they continued to operate, moving from her womb to her brain in the same proceedure. They went in behind her right ear, cutting away bone and carefully making room for a cybernetic implant and a control node.
They wanted to use her as an assassin, but they couldn't train her in the uncontrolable psychotic state they found her in. They needed control and they were going to get it one way or another. Their operation to implant the control device directly into her brain removed her free will and essentially made her a living puppet. For the next ninteen years they controlled her every action, her every thought. They erased years of memories from her mind, making certain that if the node failed that she would not return to her psychotic rampage state of mind. And in doing so they suppressed her personality.
Like a mindless robot, she did as they commanded without question and in fact without a word. She never spoke unless they addressed her directly and when she did speak, her voice was flat and robotic. They started training her body for the challenges of assassination and built upon her already present survival skills. Her managers decided to nickname her "Anubis", the god of death.
Not everything was going well however. The war turned against her captors and she was captured. Her new captors, cautious about approaching her when she was concious, had to fill her cell with a sedative gas before they could examine her more closely. When they found the implant behind her ear they recognized the handywork of mind control technology and made the attempt to free her from their control...
Thus here she is, with most of the implant removed from her brain and sitting under heavy observation in a recovery cell. Draped only in a patient's surgical gown, she sits frail and barely coherent. They showed her the parts of the implant they removed from her brain and explained to her where they found her and who did it to her. They also told her that there were still parts of the hideous device imbedded in her brain they had to remove over the next few months, but her mind was too fragile and had trouble absorbing the details. The only words she could say to her caretaers were "Where am I? Who Am I?"
Free of the control and shackles in her brain, it will be years before she regains her sense of self and reclaims her identity. And while her memory is permanently scarred by the brutal erasure of years of experiences, she will stay with her caretakers as she heals, their guidance the closest thing to a family she has, and she needs all the support she can get. Eventually she will remember her name. Cassie Kalhoun.
As for the people that controlled her like their personal robot, their morally irreprehensible actions and inhumane treatment of their prisoners earned them notriety in the history books. Her child grew up under a ground soldier program and was later caught when the enemy's emperor surrendered. As a criminal of war, Cassie's child was imprisoned for life.
