Drone Recruitment: Gamma 002 [YCH][+Story]
This is the second of the drone recruitment YCH slots, this time for
Gloedik . Had a lot of fun working on it, especially with the various lighting effects.
The quiet still returned to the first floor of the ominous lab as the trap was readied once again. The place was swept of all signs of the first guest, from the abandoned clothing to the damp towel and even the stray drops of the transformative nanobots. Not a single sign of trouble was to remain to be discovered by the facility’s next visitor.
As the newly formed drone took its place in the upper levels of the lab, the administrators settled in to wait. It was not long at all until their next mark arrived.
Blain pushed through the swinging doors which made up the entrance of the building. It was a nice place, all things considered, despite being a bit empty. It was easy to assume that there was some sort of break going on, there was no reason for such a large structure to have so few cars in the parking lot otherwise.
A speaker chirped to life as the man approached the front desk, interrupting any further examination of the lobby.
“Hello, Blain!” The person on the other end greeted happily. Blain didn’t have a chance to reply before the person continued on. “We’re still finishing up with our last interviewee, so we’ll be with you in a few minutes. In the meantime, you can head down the hall to your left to conference room C.”
“Uh, sure.” Blain replied. It was odd not meeting anyone face to face, but the rooms seemed to be well labeled, making it rather easy for him to find his was to the right room. Inside the room was nothing special from what he could tell, just a single chair and a small desk nearby. With nothing to do but wait, Blain sat down in the chair.
It was but a moment later when he felt something dripping into his curly hair. Confused, he looked towards the ceiling to find a tile hinged open with a giant mass of -something- falling fast towards him.
The blob splattered over his head like a water balloon, coating his face in a layer of ooze. Instinctively, Blain tried to wipe the stuff away only to find himself pulling at the stretchy material when it would not budge. As Blain fought in vain, the ooze began to build up over his face in the shape of a animalistic snout before continuing to run down his neck.
The glass visor tinting his view blinked to life, displaying the simple message: ‘Host found, begin conversion’. His screams were smothered by the rubber covering his face.
Purple and red latex continued to cascade down his chest, nanobots melting his clothing as it went. Blain could no longer fight it, as the ooze that had gotten onto his hands when he was first tugging at the forming mask had forced his fingers to curl in and swelled into thick paw pads, all but removing his dexterity.
Twin nubs had emerged near his shoulder blades, steadily growing as a new appendage in the form of a tail was quickly lengthening at his rear. An array of spots on Blain’s rubber skin lit up to project a hologram of fur to add to the animal appearance the nanobots worked to create.
As his feet were swallowed by the ooze, the message in Blain’s visor changed.
‘Searching: human memories’
‘Found Human_Memories.MP4’
‘Deleting Human_Memories.MP4...’
“No, no!” Blain tried to say as his visor began to swirl in an array of colors. Nothing more seemed to happen. Blain almost laughed, they thought they could erase his memories like this?
He’d show them. He would stare into the hypnotic swirl the whole time, like a good drone. His superiors would be so impressed that it made it through with its memories intact. They would praise it for a feat like that!
Though, Gamma Two was not completely sure why he needed to retain this file. It was huge, after all, and did not seem to be an asset to his objective in any way. The swirling in its vision halted, and Two quarenteend the file. Simply deleting it would be a waste of precious processing power, but this would allow new data needing the space to overwrite the MP4 as needed without it affecting its operations.
Running a quick diagnostics, Two found itself to be fully functional, though it was bleeded energy through its glowing skin. It did not seem to be that large of an issue, especially the thrusters mounted to Two’s back would consume more energy in a moment than its skin would in its lifetime.
It was then that Two receive communications from above.
“Roger.” Replied Two to the digital communique before turning to the door. A human had been lured in with the promise of work, and Gamma Two was expected to aid in their assimilation. Needless to say, Two was thrilled to be charged with such a task.
