With them initially did they take more time or just not feel as well put together, to you?
I've been having a lot of thought about how I pace and price lately. I keep really undercutting myself to deliver on a particular quality, and I'm finding it just not financially sustainable unless I loosen up a lot and decide to consider some things 'good enough' to not spend double or triple the time reworking and overworking them
do you have any experience in something like that? o:

Ah i'm afraid the history with those background goes back so far that i don't really remember how it was in the beginning. While they are a little bit of a newer commission type i did work with them for a decent while beforehand.
Though as for the time required, yeah it can sometimes take longer when i open a new type of commission just to get the workflow going, but double or triple sounds like a lot. So i'd sit down and think if you actually think you can cut down the time so much or if you just have to adjust something else.

I do have a history of overworking things to try and make people happy (working towards smooth and crisp even if I don't like or prefer it much myself, weird obligated feeling), and I'm probably undercharging on some of my commissions to boot. it's been on my mind a lot. I've been curious to see how many artists, painters in the fandom especially, have experienced some of the same things. :P So I've been poking around with questions while I try to change things in my business model. It's been especially bad this year. I was making about double per month last year on the same amount of work, but I was doing mostly sketches and not full pieces.
