Here is another in a series of 'pluggerisms' I had mailed out to Gary Brookins - the artist behind "Pluggers" (originally co-created by the late Jeff MacNelly).
My late mother - Sheila Martinez - was the inspiration for this strip. In RL, Mom was convinced that both "thank you" and "ice cream" were one word each, as a result of doing crossword puzzles throughout her entire life. When I'd tried to explain that to her, she retaliated with an inquiry about 'computerese', and why most beginning portions of E-mail addresses were all one word - which I was at a loss to explain!
I'd sent this gag to Mr. Brookins this week, but it probably won't appear in the comic until later in 2010 (if I'm lucky, of course). At this time, he is presenting his annual "Top Ten Pluggers of the Year" - a series of rerun strips of the best of 2009.
Anyway, if you have any ideas for 'pluggerisms' of your own, 'snail-mail' them to "Pluggers", P.O. Box 29347, Henrico, VA 23242.

I seem to have problems with contractions myself, Tzologeist. When I try to compress two words into one (e.g. would have = would've) in my Yahoo! inbox, a red line would appear underneath said contraction (indicating that I might need 'Spell Check'). Thank you for sharing your own grammatical experience with us.
"...why most beginning portions of E-mail addresses were all one word - which I was at a loss to explain! "
There's supposed to be no spaces or other whitespace characters in the email address. I forget which RFC standard(s) that spells that out. Also, the local name part of the address is almost always the username, depending (supposedly) upon the local system, with a no-whitespace rule seen there as well.
p.s. "Ice-cream" is generally a hypehnated word; two great things that go great together. "Thank you" is not, and the words live solely by themselves.
