Here’s a scenario: an adult who draws and posts adult oriented work is followed by a minor. The artist has no idea that this person is a minor, and interacts with them. The minor does something dumb like running away, or just has overbearing parents, and the parents go looking through their computer and see that they’ve had interactions with the adult who draws and posts adult oriented material. The parents then get into contact with the authorities, who go and pick up this artist, the artist faces jail time without parole, and is labelled FOR LIFE as a child predator.
Does that sound unlikely? Well, it happened. And it happened because the MINOR went into ADULT ORIENTED SPACES and lied about their age, knowing that they should not be there.

This is why children should not be allowed to have unsupervised PC time, or a cell phone, until they can either pay for it themselves or are known to be trustworthy enough. (yes, I'm a meanie who wouldn't let my kids have a normal 'unlocked' cell phone until late in their teenage years)
Unfortunately FA and other sites are stuffed full of lying minors. The fandom gives little thought to welcoming minors in to the fold with open arms; unfortunately too many of them do it for far less innocent reasons than just wanting to be friendly.

Yuuuuuup. I don’t care if kids think it’s being overbearing but if I had kids I wouldn’t be doing it for their protection alone, I’d be doing it for the protection of others. I know the seedy parts of the open internet because I contribute to it with my art, and I don’t want minors anywhere near me, specifically for my own protection.
And yeah, I was ranting a bit on Twitter the other day because a minor followed me here who had their faves hidden, which I think should absolutely NOT be allowed. I blocked them immediately because absolutely fuck that, I’m not going anywhere near that.
