It is known there is some remaining civilization in the more remote locations of the continent such as Hope City where quite a bit of tech is available, though there are some groups that have moved in from outside who have their own agenda.

One of the first encountered were the fennecs from the sahara region, but there were others since then from further north east towards what was once known as Egypt and the Persian Gulf. It's this group in particular that has moved into the wasteland looking for resources and alliances, though ofcourse not all of them have the same morals and became part of the slave trade and crime syndicates.

Nekhbet and Yazid belong to the first group who are mainly just looking for resources and exploring, and these two do so by air in their heavily modified ultra light aircraft. Flight is one of those technologies that were lost to the majority of the remaining populations, though same as with advanced medical knowledge it was still preserved to some extent by select groups. Though noth without it's risks as Nekhbet can attest, having lost an arm and half a leg in a crash. Thankfully for her they had the technology available that she could get some replacement limbs, even if they are rather crude given the limited materials she had to work with, but at least it's functional enough if lacking in the finer motor skills. The only real issue is finding enough batteries to power it, but Yazid has come up with a partial solution to that with a modification to their aircraft that allows a few batteries to be charged while in flight and a solar charger for their craft's battery now also fits the smaller batteries for Nek's arm.

While exploring they have made contact witha few scattered settlements, offering repair services in exchange for supplies most importantly fuel to keep their ultra light flying but they've found that fuel isn't as readily available in most parts so they now plan their explorations more carefully.

While they may be explorers their true intention is to find a suitable location to settle for their clan back home, however they have yet to find any true safe haven outside the cities like the ones they wanted to escape from back home.
