A few moments passed. It's all it took. Corbin accidentally stepped in this puddle of grey liquid inside of a laboratory. He thought nothing of it at first... until his legs couldn't move. Then his wings couldn't move... then his arms. Then his head. Also, he was a statue.

Of course, with no one around, there were no witnesses. For all anyone knew, he was just a statue designed by a master craftsman who had a fascination with portly dad-bod dragons!
