id say sorry for making next gens of my own redesigns but i'm not. i honestly broke down and redesigned rarity again yesterday just so i could do this lmao

when rarity and applejack began wanting a family of their own and were trying to figure out ways to go about it, discord overheard and decided to settle the problem for them! poof, rarity was now a stallion and applejack was de facto going to carry the little one(s). discord's chaos magic caused something unexpected however; it reawoke mule genes buried in rarity's family line and this led to much teasing for the young foals.

melrose is rarity and applejack's eldest, and shortest, foal. due to her short stature, many ponies think she's the younger sibling of the two which would frustrate a young melrose. she has a temper shorter than her height and isn't afraid to pick a fight with anypony who dares comment on either- especially as a young filly. out of the two, melrose dealt with less bullying than her younger brother from a combination of her short stature making most of the traits look normal and the fact that she bloodied the last filly's snout who commented on hers. for awhile, melrose herself was a bit of a bully, stemming from her not taking shit in general and growing with her anger issues. however, that was put a stop to by her mothers who were not going to tolerate her mistreating others.

melrose is definitely applejack's daughter, rough and tumble as well as unafraid to get down and dirty to get something done. once during the peak of harvest season, the tractor broke down and the rest of the family were immediately worried to how they were going to get it fixed in time, but before anything could be done about it melrose got her hooves on it and whipped it into shape! she climbed out covered in grease and a grin and the tractor has barely had any problems since.

her sweet face and small stature often leads other ponies to expect her to be soft spoken and gentle, but melrose has had her mouth washed out with soap more times than she can count- not to mention when she finally got grounded from spitting seed shells on the floor. she puts up with mama rarity dolling her up occassionally, but usually ruins whatever hairstyle or makeup rarity fixes on her when she heads out soon after to do some dirty work on the farm- or just to roll around in the hay.

opal gold is rarity and applejack's youngest foal and while he may look regal and perfectly styled now, just mention baby pictures and his mama's will dig out the albums to show you all of his lanky colt years, full of knobby knees and legs too long for the rest of him to keep up! due to his tail and ears, not to mention his snout, he was teased and bullied, some insinuating one of his mother's infidelity multiple times throughout his young life. melrose defended him when she could, but she was many years younger and out of school for a time while opal still had to deal with cruel fillies and colts. after summers spent in canterlot while rarity tended her branch there, he started looking up to the elite and taking after his mother rarity even more. he mastered holding his head high and absolutely scathing remarks, coming back from break with more filled out legs and a killer attitude that fended off many bullies. anyone left trying to give him shit were very much destroyed by his ability to dissect another pony for what they're self conscious about at a glance (or maybe it was his habitual stalking of online profiles of anyone who had dared to cross him, he'll never tell).

opal gold further takes after his mother when he goes into fashion- though he specializes designing jewelry, everything from elegantly simple designs to breathtakingly extravagant tiaras and the like, first setting up shop selling with rarity at her ponyville boutique and eventually opening a store of his own.

he is utterly savage in his remarks, hides his accent as best he can, and tends to be pretty neurotic if his schedule is even the slightest bit hectic which tends to cause his accent to slip through the posh facade he holds up rigorously at any other time. when off work, visiting is mothers, he can be seen slouching around with an unbrushed mane- plus sweats if it's chilly. trying to comment on this usually leads to him picking you apart easily because why should you care what he was wearing on a weekend when you're out on the town wearing that?

i'm still trying to decide what their cutie marks will be- melrose's will probably be something mechanical related while opal gold's might have a golden apple lmao

the whole "discord helping with chaos magic" thing is completely inspired by  lopoddity's amazing next gen au- it got me back into mlp in the first place!
