For the first time since that leopard girl had attacked him - she attacked the whole city, of course, but she attacked him, too - JT thought about being fat.
Before that fateful day, the wolf had found superheroing to be a difficult gig. Sure, not everyone got super speed from a tainted energy drink, so he wasn’t complaining, but try as he might, JT simply couldn’t put on muscle. So he was a scrawny superhero with lightning speed - great for rescuing people from fires and dodging bullets, but less useful in fights. Usually, the wolf had to run at full speed for his punches and kicks to do any damage, and even then he ran the risk of exhausting himself before finishing the fight. After a few close calls, he was about to resign himself to a life of B-level superheroing, rescuing cats and helping the cops more than beating supervillains on his own.
Then Gemie attacked. The crazy catgirl tried to fatten the whole city, but JT managed to stop her... only after she fattened him to the point of immobility, though. He felt so fat he could barely move when the leopard was done with him, but to his shock, his powers were as strong, if not stronger, than ever when he got the upper hand and defeated the sorceress. When he moved, there was gravity to his motion, momentum in his punches.
JT didn’t get time to test out his theory after the fight. Gemie’s weight gain spell was dependent on her keeping it active, meaning the moment she was hauled off to prison, everyone in the city lost all of their excess weight in an instant. Even JT, who had gained more than a thousand pounds in the course of hours, was dumbfounded to see the weight vanish off his frame, his costume shrinking to normal. As soon as that shock wore off, though, another one jolted through him - he had fractured his ankle taking down the evil cat, meaning he couldn’t run for a while, putting his superheroing life on hold.
After two months of rest and relaxation - too much relaxation - JT finally got a clean bill of health, and with his first defeated super villain under his belt, the wolf eagerly suited up, excited to return to action. Only his suit was much tighter than before. Had he really let himself go this much? Wow, he needed to go on a diet.
JT’s first night back on the job went well. Surprisingly well. Too well. While the wolf was a little rusty, his crimefighting was better than ever. In a skirmish with a bank robber, JT took him down with one speedy punch, a far cry from the six he’d normally have to land. Later that night, a band of thugs ambushed him, but the wolf easily got the upper hand.
As he sat on a rooftop and rested, JT crowed at how well he had fought that night. What had gotten into him? Was the time off helping him with his strategy? Then he looked at his chubby body - well, more than just chubby now, full-blown fast body - and realized what had helped him so much. His weight. Where the wolf used to be a superball ricocheting between his opponents, wearing them down, now he was more of a bowling ball, mowing them down using his momentum. He thought back to his fight with Gemie... yep, that made sense. His powers weren’t weak because he was skinny; they’d get stronger if he was fatter. No wonder he couldn’t build muscle - energy drinks are pure sugar.
And if he was this effective simply being fat, imagine how much harder he’d hit if he put on more weight. Forget a bowling ball; he’d be a wrecking ball.
JT jostled his belly and grinned. It was time to gain some momentum.
