no but really the long version i wrote here a while back https://happikattwuzheere.tumblr.co.....e-and-pap-just but the short version is i'm referring to "fool" as in, like, the Royal Fool, aka the Court Jester, a position with a lot of really interesting aspects to it in a literary sense that i think all p directly applies to sans

essentially: he's both the lowest ranking member of the kingdom (no one takes him seriously but everyone knows him, he's well liked but no one's remotely intimidated by him because oh thats just sans he's harmless) yet simultaneously he's also arguably the most powerful in the kingdom (that very lack of threat means that no one hides things for him, he works well as an advisor because he's got the right to criticize the king in a way no one else would dare, etc etc)

well it does sound founded that you'd call him that, yes. i guessed as much when you described him as fool and not as idiot xD but really he's the judge, so i dont FULLY aggree there <w< might just be my obsession with him talking there tho, no hard feelings :3

i mean part of my theory there is that "judge" is basically part of his job lol like. it's his job to judge people, see them as they are, and call them out on it, largely by cracking jokes at their expense but before you meet the king he drops all comedy facades and just says it like it is

it's the judge but w/ a bit more literary nuance :3 like legit reading a wikipedia page on the royal fool is. it feels like a role sans fits perfectly

i always see his messing around as part of his nihilism because he's trying to play over the fact he doesn't care anymore for papyrus and such. but like i said, i see where you're coming from :3
