Coyote met a Mynah-Bird whose tongue was gleaming gold,
Coyote shared with Mynah-Bird some songs and riddles old.
Mynah-Bird answered all with grace and poise and style,
And stole Coyote's voice to make her answer all the while.
Coyote all a-flattered asked the Mynah for a tale;
A story from afar did the gilt-tongue bird regale.
So Coyote offered wager with a wide and iv'ry grin,
One which he was sure Mynah-Bird would indulge in.
"Sing to me something I never have been told;
Sing to me a yet-unknown truth with a smile.
Sing to me, O Mynah Bird, and dare you not fail;
My teeth are price for loss, my wisdom is your win."
The Mynah-Bird cocked her head and considered for a moment-
The Mynah-Bird, with some great worry, a reply did foment.
The Mynah-Bird gave her reply a short and simple go-
The Mynah-Bird answered, plain and flat, a firm "No."
Coyote, shocked, and then delighted, raised laughter to the skies-
Amusement shone in the tricky god's vast and gleaming eyes.
"You've won, Mynah-Bird, you clever thing, and I admit defeat-
Of all the things that I have heard, denial I've yet to meet."
Coyote thought of Mynah-Bird that company was nice;
Mynah of Coyote enjoyed his tricky, fanciful flights.
Now does daring Mynah-Bird visit Coyote in his canyon,
Each the other's steadfast and enjoyable companion.
Day 22 of graivulture 's 30-Day challenge! Today's prompt is SONGBIRD.
Inspiration for the Coyote's design goes to Gunnerkrigg Court! I like his colours and swirling patterns, myself, though I simplified him here, clearly.
