Now we get to one of the good parts.

Two Worlds
The Group
The night then came and it found Amethyst walking the streets with the same cloak Nicholas had given to her when he had found her at Lofter’s Gaze. The dragoness had taken very good care of it so far, as this cloak fit her frame well and was warm but light. It also reminded her of the male dragon who so far was kind, brave, strong, and everything else that could make a female happy. It made Amethyst blush, but at the same time sad. Despite what the guy had said, there was the wall of where they stood social status wise. And then there was the doubt of how such a winged dragon could ever be into her, a wingless dragoness. But even with this, Amethyst couldn’t get Nicholas out of her head. Her thoughts then turned to what had happened with leaving.
“I’m going to bed early,” Julie had said to Amethyst. Her sister Jasmine had already left for the strip club. “I feel very down.”
This happened sometimes for the mother dragon. It wasn’t due to drinking, but some days, the older female felt off. Amethyst just nodded, knowing her mother would be fast asleep and she’d be able to sneak out to see Nicholas. The young dragoness had written a note just to be on the safe side. This only said she was going to be out for a little bit and would be home soon. Amethyst still hadn’t told anyone about Nicholas yet. The female made it to where Nicholas told her he would be waiting. By this point the sun had set and it was night out with the lights in the street on. Amethyst then saw someone move out from the shadows and saw it was the male dragon in a cloak. “Amethyst?” he whispered.
“Yeah, it’s me,” she replied softly back. The guy gave a jerk of his head and she followed him into the shadows so nobody could see them.
“Sorry to be secretive, but it’s for the best,” he said softly.
“So why are we here?” Amethyst asked, less shy as she was curious now.
“I need to show you something. Follow me.”
The two made their way to a deserted part of the city that was a dead end. The male touched a section of the wall and it moved to reveal a chain. The guy pulled it and a hidden door in the wall was revealed. “Has this always been here?” Amethyst asked as it swung open to reveal some stones steps leading down.
“It’s very secret,” Nicholas answered as he started down them with the dragoness following him. The door closed behind them but that wasn’t a problem as there was light from a torch a bit further down with more following. “It was discovered by accident and then kept secret. Not even the current rulers and most of the dragons here know about this. This was probably built when the city was first created. Over time, people forgot about it as Verona expanded and was destroyed on occasion.”
Amethyst had learned some of the history with this city. As more dragons came to live here, the city had been expanded upon. Add attacks that destroy it and the palace, which caused the building to be moved and the city to be rebuilt, and that would explain why this old passage way was still around and why most wouldn’t know about it. The two then reached the end of the flight of steps where more torches were at. “Where are we exactly?” the female asked.
“It’s part of an old underground passage,” the male said. He then looked down the only way forward as the way back was caved in, not counting the stairs they had taken. The male began to walk down that way with her following him.
It was only about a minute of walking when they reached a door. There was a slit on it that could be opened to peep out and see who was out there. Nicholas walked up and knocked on it with a series of taps in a code like style. The slit opened up and Amethyst saw a small section of a face with yellow eyes. “Yes?” they asked.
“It’s me,” the green male dragon said. “I’ve brought her.”
“Brought me?” Amethyst asked, worried. Nicholas sent her a smile to show it was alright.
The door opened and the two stepped in. The dragoness saw others in here, mostly wingless ones, but some with wings, both males and females. They were either talking, examining weapons, playing cards, or studying maps. They all stopped and looked up when Nicholas and Amethyst stepped in. She blushed with all these faces looking at her and on instinct shrank close to the male. “Just a newcomer, go back to your tasks,” the male dragon said.
Everyone else did just that. “Who are these people?” Amethyst whispered to Nicholas, now a little nervous. “What is this?”
“If things go well, hopefully something better for you,” he said softly. “I think it would be better if you were talked to about this from others.”
He led the way to a smaller room past the others. Inside there was a picture hanging on a wall showing an elderly green male dragon, a very old one. Under that was a symbol, that of a curved talon with fire surrounding it. At a table, a few winged dragons and dragoness were here. They looked up and they smiled at Nicholas. “You came my son,” a blue scaled dragon said. His mother was here as well and Amethyst felt shock as she recognized the older Cobalts and could tell from the symbol what this was now.
“You…” she whispered.
“Yes,” Nicholas answered and turned to face her. “This is Talon’s secret hideout. And I am a member of it, helping wingless dragons and trying create a brighter future for those with and without wings.”
Amethyst had heard of this group but like many, wasn’t too sure if the group really did exist. Sure, dead members had turned up, and reports of attacks on the guards were known. But the Talon rebel group were so secretive they mostly operated in the shadows. But now, here was proof that they did exist. And Nicholas, a person from a high status family in the city was part of it and his parents as well. “I… it’s a lot to take in…” the dragoness whispered.
“This is a shock, I know,” the male dragon said. “Let me at least introduce you to some people.”
She turned with him. “First, are my mother and father, Linden and Vincent.” Amethyst saw that he got his height from the blue scaled dragon, and everything else from his mom. “Janet, one of our top spies.” The second dragoness in here who had aqua colors nodded. “Tybalt, one of our greatest warriors.” A black scaled dragon with wings just jerked his head. “And finally our current leader of Talon, Torn.”
This dragon had dull red scales and despite his furious looking yellow eyes, he smiled warmly. “Welcome, Miss Amethyst,” he said, his voice having warmth and allowing the young dragoness to relax.
“You… know me?” the female asked.
“Well, Nicholas here has talked a lot about you and the…” Here Torn cleared his throat. “Situation you and your family are in. He wants to help you.”
Amethyst looked to him again, blushing, and wondering again how such a winged dragon could exist. One who had shown nothing but kindness to her, telling her impossible things weren’t, and how he had helped her with those guards. “When I saw the situation you were in, I thought this might help change it,” Nicholas said. “Especially since we’ve helped so many others. You’re no different from them.” In his head, the dragon knew Amethyst was so much more than that; the most amazing female he had ever been with. But the guy didn’t say that out loud.
Amethyst looked to the older dragons in amazement before looking back to Nicholas. “Thank you,” she whispered, blushing again. “But… how did this all happen? This group?”
“It all started with my great grandfather, the one who’s picture you can see hanging on the wall.” She looked to it. “Dante was his name and it all started when he helped out a wingless dragon in a nasty situation when he was about 20. Seeing how this made a difference in the society the two lived in, they made a pact to overthrow this system to make it where winged and wingless dragons lived in harmony. Well, after starting to gather members, they slowly began to move. It’s only been within the last two years Talon has really taken a more active role with being more open about themselves. That was over a hundred years ago. Now we are strong. My great grandfather died before three years ago due to old age. But he believed that it would be my generation that would succeed.”
The young dragoness listened and understood. “And you?” she asked.
“I had heard about this group but even before then, I hated how the situation was for wingless dragons. But I also noticed my parents kept slipping away at points. One night, I followed them and to my shock like yours I learned they were apart of Talon. I was shocked as my family were not only doing things to help like I wanted, one of them had founded this group. When asked if I would join, I said I would. Now my younger brother is the only one who hasn’t as he’s too young. But he helps by covering for all three of us so we’re not missed.”
Amethyst nodded. “And he’s been a big help,” Janet added with a wink to the young female. “He’s really made an effort.”
“But… while that’s nice and all, how will this help me?” Amethyst asked, looking to Nicholas.
“I brought you here to join us,” he said. She got a look of shock.
“Me?! Join? But… I don’t even know how to fight!”
“There are many who joined us who couldn’t,” Torn said. “Older than you even. Not all of them learned, but took different roles such as spies, and other positions. But they all can at least defend themselves. If they can learn, you can as well Amethyst.”
“And it will help,” Nicholas added.
“But… what about my sister? My mother? I don’t know if I can join you and risk putting them in danger…”
“It’s a risk we all took. We all knew what it meant for our families. But our desire to create a better life is what drives us. Which is why we have many hiding places for yours. There is even a safe haven outside the walls of Verona, far away for those that can’t be hidden. Not even the rulers of this city know where it is. If you do join I can promise we’ll be able to protect those two very well. I know it’s what your father Harold would hope for.”
“Wait… how do you know him?” the dragoness then asked.
“He doesn’t, but some of us did,” Torn answered. “He was an informer of Talon. Not a member, but a helper.”
“Wha… I never knew that!” Amethyst exclaimed. “Does my mom know of this?!”
“Harold… he kept that part of his life secret from you and your sister as he didn’t want you to worry. Your mother did know. But then when he lost his life in that accident, it was a loss to us as well as he was one of our best informers. But he knew we would have what it took to give his family the better life he knew they deserved. He told me that before.”
“We won’t force you to join, but you have that choice,” Nicholas then stated to Amethyst. “If you do, I promise you, your family will be safe. And you’ll no longer have to work at that place again. Those two who own the place won’t be able to find you or them. It will be better for all three of you. You will have time to think about it.”
Amethyst looked to him and the others. She closed her eyes, weighing the pros and cons. She did hate working at that strip club, how they treated her and her family, and how best of all, she could save her virginity and not have it be taken from her by force. “No, I won’t wait,” the dragoness replied. “I’ve always wanted a better life. I’ll take this chance.”
“Then welcome,” Torn said with a smile. “Why don’t we introduce you to people here and then we’ll figure out what to do next.” She nodded with a smile, feeling happier and certain she had made the right choice. Amethyst had no idea how much she had.
