I saw The Matrix for the first time today in its entirety and it's okay, I've seen more parodies of it than the actual movie that I can't unthink of when I watch the movie itself but it was alright, felt really down played however and not as over the top as the parodies make it seem.
But oh boy I haven't even gotten to the rest of the Matrix films,, not sure if I'll watch Animatrix.

That's the First movie. And it was pretty good.
And then there came two more Matrix movies. They were also good but a bit less so than the first.
And then came the Parodies. And they were also pretty awesome.
And somewhere in the shuffle of it all was the Animatrix. I haven't seen it myself but I feel like I've heard it fluctuated in quality in the range of okay to awesome, so take that as you will.
As cool as it was, it was both simultaneously high-stakes action and very philosophical. I don't think any other movie has done what it did to the same level, it raised the bar really high for cyberpunk flicks. But it's also a bit overrated and has caused at least two awful disasters, so I'm not sure if it really had a good impact on cinema and society.

I don't know about the philosophical part when the symbolism is so obvious, Neo is One just rearranged and all the jesus subtext is pretty obvious, I think Nostalgia Critic went over the movies pretty well honestly. As for culture Matrix parodies were god damn everywhere, it got the point where Matrix parodies were as recognizable as Star Wars parodies which were also everywhere and still everywhere, I always used to catch bits and pieces of the movie but I finally decided to just sit down and watch it, it was okay, I feel like The Raid and John Wick are vastly superior films but maybe that's not a fair comparison because Matrix was one of the first to do super stylish action, I do respect its impact.
I guess if I could compare Animatrix to anything it would be like the Netflix exclusive Love Death Robots, a bunch of hit and miss animated shorts.

Well, that's what I got out of it at the time. I love stylish action, so the parodies just felt like more fanservice to me. And I was fine with it. Of course, I haven't gone to see that many more movies ever since the superhero movie craze that hasn't stopped since forever ago, the most recent one being Enter the Spiderverse because it was so good.
Yeah, hit and miss is at least better than missing all the time. And those idiots who make that dumb joke about "hit or miss" can shut right up.
