R.E.S Albert's captain's log, Day 23
We have begun charting the home planet of the aliens. They stand at an average of six feet, and they faces all bear resemblance to canines of Earth, except that they speak and wear very peculiar clothing that barely covers enough of them. We had some difficulty at first with the docking space station, and at first we thought the translators were broken. Eventually, we understood that they had no docking 'ring', as they called it, configured for our vessel. The best we could do was approach the cargo docking 'ring' and await a shuttle to the station.
As representatives of Her Majesty's Government, and the Royal Exploration of Space Commission, I daresay we drew a few stares from the aliens in our red dress uniforms and feathered bicorn hats. I think Mr. Ridgeton nearly told off the abassador who came to meet us for not wearing shoes. But I for one could not stop staring at the maze of strange architecture and design of the spaceport. Ropes that conducted electricity seemed embedded in every wall, all connected to glowing mirrors, which somehow projected images from other places onto their surfaces. There were odd four-wheeled bicycles that required no pedalling to move, and I could not see any steam engine mounted on any of them.
We decided to stop at a restaurant on the station before proceeding. They served us very quickly, but for some reason we could not order anything beyond the confines of meat stuck between two lumps of bread. Consigned to eat these meagre alien delicacies, we had to send the wine back twice - it was fizzy. A sure sign that it was off. I would not recommend Mr. Greasy Janther Esquire's 'Burger Grill' to any wandering traveller from our native Empire.
A random idea I had about a group of Victorian explorers packing up and sailing off in a spaceship to taste life across the Universe. Of course, the conventional sci-fi settings they've found so far are quite dissatisfying to their minds, this one describing their time in a fast-food restaurant on a space station run by anthro canines. :D
