When Shu died, Hamel wielded his hammer in remembrance to him. Hamel never moved on from Shu's death and had many sleepless nights grieving.

Years after Shu's death, the old Head Scholar recognized Hamel's power and leader ability and made him the next head. Donning the Spiral Bloom Cloak, an artifact of power with the effect of the shared wisdom of all previous Head Scholars, a symbol of the leadership needed for keeping the Archive secure, he accepted his new calling, in honor to his dead lover, who always dreamed of becoming the Head Scholar.

Many years later, Shu returned to Hamel as an Oblivious Dead. In order to save the dwarven capital city which the Archive inhabits, and as an act of mercy towards the poor creature the corpse of his lover had become, fought the Parasite, and defeated it, scarring him further.

Hamel was so deeply scarred from his encounter with the Parasite that he slowly degraded in health and mind, accelerating his age, and Hamel died at the age of 170, which is rather young for a Beastman from this world.

On his early death bed, he made his best friend and advisor the new head scholar. He died peacefully and continued into the after, where after many lonely years he was finally reunited with his beloved Shu.
