Sketchbook Pro

I wanted to do a piece that wasn't 'straight' furry. Something with a slightly broader appeal, but I didn't want to jump into 'non furry' completely. Egyptian mythos really works for that!
I've been working on this piece for weeks, off and on, for five minutes at a time, it feels like, but I'm okay with the end results.

I got into the whole 'Ancient Egypt' thing and their mythology when I was 9 -- mmm, 53 years ago. So, nyeah.

Oooh, nice! I've had a rocky relationship with it (my sister had an abusive ex who was really into it), but I still have my terrible cheap Ankh I bought in 8th Grade during a super program with the school.

I'd love to find a book on Egyptian mythology, along with most other mythologies of different societies, especially the myths of Europe, northern Africa, North, Central and Eastern South American Indians/Native Americans. It would help in writing a story I've been thinking about writing for several years.

The stuff is out there. I grew up with D'Aulaire's Greek Myths and Norse Myths. Great art and accurate text, but aimed at the pre-teen set. Bulfinch's Mythology was my next step -- three volumes (The Age of Fable will do, unless you want The Age of Chivalry and Legends of Charlemagne. Edith Hamilton's Mythology was my textbook in college. These don't have everything you're looking for, but they're a good start.

Thanks for the info. I know most of the major European mythological characters, Norse, Roman, Greek, but some of the lesser known ones, Celtic, Gallic, Egyptian, etc., I don't know so well. I've read a few mythological stories, Iliad, Odyssey, etc., but, not a lot of them. As I said, these myths would help with a story that's based on them.

I found several books on Amazon.com that were about the different mythologies I'm interested in learning about. I simply typed into the search engine, North American mythologies, Egyptian mythologies, etc. and found many, MANY books on the different genres of the subject. I'm going to have to start buying them. I want to see what common threads they may have since that's what my story is going to be based around.

I'd love to hear what you find in that vein. I hate how rusty I've gotten with researching my stuff, lately. And how on many nights I don't even read anymore. It used to be unthinkable that I not read before bed.

I've decided that the mythological gods and goddesses were named after real living people and their home is on the island of Atlantis. The mythological sea creatures are, in actuality, ships/submarines of immense size, 1 to 5 kilometers. One, the Charybdis which patrolled the coastal waters of Italy, was so large that when it submerged created an immense whirlpool. Another, the Krakken which patrolled the coastal waters of Norway, was one of the largest submarines in the Atlantean fleet. These are ideas that came to me one day as I was working on my first story, "Marooned on Tashoo".

Right now, though, I'm working on a short story and two other full length stories. I hope I can get to the story soon.
