Brewery: Abbay de Leffe
Name: Leffe Blonde
Style: Belgian Blonde Ale
Origin: Belgium
Bottle: 11.2 oz
ABV: 6.6%
Appearance: a somewhat orange-ish tinge of a very rich shafe of gold and a healthy flow of carbonation.
Pours: a head flares up readily, reaching a few inches even with care taken.
Smell: some spices that would pair well with poultry, game bird or pork with some light, dry grains.
Taste: apple and orange first come to tongue and mind followed quickly by cinnamon, cardamom and perhaps a pinch of nutmeg. Followed by a nice bitter zing on swallowing. Oddly enough, or perhaps not so, I’m suddenly in the mood for some holiday songs of good cheer from the 19th century or earlier. A real Courier&Ives nostalgia going on here
Mouthfeel: Other than the faint burn of carbonation and the nicely balanced dash of bitterness mentioned above in the taste this ale relies on its flavor albeit with a fantastic assist from that CO2.
Rating: 7.8.....okay, fine, 8.3. I admit I knocked off five points because this is actually my second bottle. The first one I opened then it sat there and I let it go flat while I tended to a near three hour phone call. So now I feel guilty for being petulant; And if this beer were an actual person I think they’d give me a big laugh and a hearty embrace and loudly proclaim not to worry and all is forgiven, then encourage me to partake of a feast in its best Dickensian Spirit of Christmas Present demeanor. An excellent host of a beer that puts its guests at ease.
