A temporary position was what Chalur was promised. He just had to be the store's mascot for a bit, which meant he got to dress up in some amazing duds for a little while. He carefully put his suit on and examined himself in the mirror. "Oh wow. This looks amazing! And it feels amazing, too!"

"Oh good." A voice came from behind him. It was the store's owner. "I was worried it would be too tight for you!"

"Haha, no!" Chalur chirped happily. He lifted an arm and flexed it, admiring the well-made fabrics of his suit. He then felt a tightness around his neck. "Erm, well, actually... maybe the hat strap is a bit too tight?" He lifted his hands to his chin and tried to unlatch the strap but found it properly fastened in place. "Mind... uh... GAHAK." He felt his words come out as a sputter when the hat strap sunk itself into his head more. He spoke in a strained voice. "Too... tight."

Continuing to grasp at the straps, Chalur tried to pull the hat off his head before it choked him... but he felt his arms were getting stiff. the clothes he once thought were comfortable now seemed to be restricting his movement. Maybe he spoke too soon....

He pivoted on his foot, looking for the store owner, but the owner was nowhere in sight. He had to find the man to help get this suit off. It was suffocating him!

"H...help!" He barely managed to get out. He was having trouble breathing and then... the tightness faded.

"Huh?" His eyes widened. Attempting to lift his arm to his head, he wanted to see if the hat strap was still there. His arm, however, would not bend and could only move in a straight line. "What's going oooo-aaaaaaaaw" Chalur felt his jaw drop open, causing his words to stop coming out. "Aaaah iiii aaawww eeee awwww?" He wanted to speak, but his mouth would not close, no matter what he tried.

"Whaaaa-" his voice was cut short. There was no air to come out, nor was there any physical way he could have talked.

After all... nutcrackers don't talk.

The nutcracker started to hobble around the store, unable to speak or move its arms and legs properly -- the perfect mascot.
