In a perfect world, there'd be a better way to keep the dire badger from catching your companions than volunteering to be the one to make it too fat to squeeze through the tunnel they crawled into.
The two novice adventurers who managed to escape weren't happy when they learned what happened to the cleric. Even worse, the "escape tunnel" turned out to lead only to the badger's den. So while Brother Randall won't be joining them, once it's digested its meal enough to fit through the tunnel, THEY will likely be joining HIM.
(If nothing else, at least everyone's equally unhappy. Well, except the badger).

Back in the day in 1st edition, no one wanted to play the cleric. Often we had to use an NPC cleric,who was invariably called "Doorstop" because that was one of his jobs. Some Doorstops got charming little eulogies written on the fly when they died, whole sheets of paper covered with a list of their accomplishments or lack thereof. 83
