Project Bloodmoon
Fort Bloodmoon was a former Lunar military installation originally owned and operated by Havenpeak, before being converted and having ownership transferred into a post-Peacemaker War colony named New Bloodmoon since 2170. The base is located in a crater 2.3 km wide in an undisclosed location on the Moon. Before becoming a refugee colony, Fort Bloodmoon was comprised of flattened paths, a mining site for resources, a ramp, a few operations stations, landing sites, an extremely powerful but discrete antenna useful for long-range reconnaissance, a crew habitat and a command center.
Fort Bloodmoon once operated at least 18 ICBM silos that would have held M568 SHIVA nuclear weapons, but a combination of inherent impracticalities and intense political backlash resulted in the silos either being dismantled or repurposed as fuel depots.
Before being decommisioned for use by Peacemaker War refugees and UAN-UIA relief efforts, Fort Bloodmoon consisted of modules and structures created from a period between 1981-2156.
History
Fort Bloodmoon was established on January 19, 1981, becoming the 23rd manned mission to the Moon, from cooperation between Havenpeak and South Redmarsh, intended as a display of military power and then-strong relationship between the two nations.
However, two notorious incidents connected to South Redmarsh; a false-flag operation that downed a cvilian airliner and an operation that exposed attempts to steal Havenpeak state secrets, alongside worldwide controversy and growing resentment from Havenpeak's population and opposition parties due to South Redmarsh's actions during the 1976-79 Redmarsh War, resulted in the end of cooperation between Havenpeak and South Redmarsh, consequently ending South Redmarsh's operations and contributions to Fort Bloodmoon.
Over the years, South Redmarsh made various attempts to diplomatically protest against Havenpeak allowing North Redmarsh to operate in and contribute to Fort Bloodmoon. All these attempts failed. A notable incident involving both Redmarshes was when Havenpeak decided to erase and remove South Redmarsh's flag on the base, sparking controversy and protests in both countries.
Before Fort Bloodmoon's decommissioning in 2170, construction drastically slowed down as a result of strengthened international cooperation on the International Space Station from 1991-2068, the International Pacific Launch Loop from 2017-2333 and the International Atlantic Space Elevator from 2051-2578. Though, modernized hardware and various systems and subsystems were added to Fort Bloodmoon from 1998, 2013 and 2031, along with rumors that the base was capable of controlling the Thunderwind orbital weapon.
