Y'all Heard of "Elf on a Shelf" but get Ready for...
Snake on a Tank
The other day Me, my Mom, and her boyfriend went to an auto parts store on Thompson Road just south of Syracuse Hancock International Airport. When I got out of the car in my VERY far peripheral vision I see a familiar sight, the muzzle of a M103A2 Heavy Tank, after making sure they (my Mom and her BF) got what they needed as I'm the only one left in the family that speaks "Cargon" (mix of Car and Jargon) I put my hand on her shoulder and said
"Imma gonna go look at that tank"
So I walk over and start looking at it and a while later whilst I was on the turret my Mom and her BF drive over and she took a good amount of pics with this being my favorite as it shows the real scale of its height at nearly 2.88 METERS!! The easily identifyable features that point to the tank being an A2 is the Gunner's Primary Sight Housing at the front, right-hand side of the turret compared to the more rearward middle position, the heavily sloped engine deck suggesting the Continental AV1790 V-12 Diesel engine also used on the M48A2, A3, A4, A5 and M60. The blisters on the turret belong to the M24 Coincidence Rangefinder which replaced the older M15 Stereoscopic Rangefinder. Sadly EVERYTHING was welded shut, painted over, and generally poorly taken care of, however the turret ID and ID Stickers were still very much visible and readable as
"B2 USMC 233116" which identifies it as a part of the United States Marine Corps B Company
Looking at it you could tell just how little this tank was used, its engine compartment and transmission were very clean (the right side access square was off), the tracks looked brand-spanking-new, the rubber on the wheels was exceptionally crisp and clean, the drive sprocket had no wear to speak of and all the handles were very... unbent?
Seeing how we're talking about tanks and me, this might as well be as good as anytime to say that after collage/ university I will be enlisting in the United States Army and trying my hand at becoming a tanker.
