Hoofers take their hoof care very seriously. If you don't, you are very quickly left hobbling about on misshapen and damaged hooves. Farriers are generally single person operations. Sometimes with a small shop where you can go get your hooves trimmed and shod. Other times, it's a person moonlighting as a farrier. Those who moonlight are surprisingly popular and in high demand. With no shop to maintain, they have less overhead and can afford to take more time with their work. Taking that extra bit of time examining and getting the filing and trimming just right.
No offence meant to the full-time shop owners, but there's only so gentle you can be when trimming what is basically a giant toenail. Giving someone a gentle and comfortable trim just takes a lot of time. As a result, it is expensive to do. Many hoofers aren't bothered by this rough treatment. It doesn't hurt, it's just uncomfortable. They care more about getting competent hoof-care quickly and getting on with their day.
Belatrix is an aircraft mechanic by day. True to her Clydesdale nature, she prefers work that is tidy, orderly, has set procedure on what is to be done when, and requires brute strength as well as a fine touch. Airplane maintenance ticks off all those check boxes. That said, she also likes to do things that aren't quite as rigid in how they are done. Things where the finer details are left to individual tastes. Originally learning to trim her own hooves, it didn't take much work to begin being a farrier. Belatrix found it both fun and relaxing.
She has a small circle of extremely loyal customers. Vicki is one of them. Since she learned being a farrier on herself first, Bellatrix has a very gentle touch when working on hooves. Such treatment means having your hooves done takes forever, but it feels so good that you don't care. She makes sure to have a supply of reading materiel for her customers to help them pass the time.
The fact that an anthro will stand still and willingly hold their hoof exactly where she wants it makes things so much easier than working on a feral. No need to worry about being bitten or kicked for your troubles. The two go back and forth between chatting about anything and everything to silently focusing on their respective activities.
Once she's finished, Belatrix has Vicki try out her new hooves. Trotting about in a circle, Vicki is clearly happy about the results. Giving Belatrix a big Vulquine hug, the two say goodbye until her next appointment. Going their separate ways, both have a happy bounce in their steps. Happy hooves clopping loudly against the pavement.
