Okay, this should probably go in scraps, but I personally like it too much (lousy anatomy and all) to scrap it.

I suppose we all tend to feel a little introspective towards the end of the year. Although I've achieved a lot this year I don't feel any happier (or less happy) or like a better person. I did what I did because I wanted to though, not expecting it to make me happy, or a better person or to make me seem higher-status, so I suppose that's pretty good.

I've spent a long time looking forward to stuff, setting arbitrary goals, trying to conform to a particular version of me that other people seem to hold in their heads. I'm an intelligent, articulate person who went to university and that means that to many people I should have a better job than I do, that I should be ambitious and be on the career ladder. But that person doesn't exist, what people think I should be isn't what I am.

Perhaps I could be that achieving, ambitious person, but personal experience tells me that taking life at my own pace and having a more serendipitous approach makes me a much more content, rounded person.
