holy crap, walking around my yard on this nice day I do a double take " wow the rock has striations that look like bark" then I do a triple take " whoa, that rock has a knot like wood!" and then finally " that rock IS wood! or it was a few score of million years of so!"

I was in Arizona a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. We visited the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. Dessert. Uh, the sandy place. Anyway, some of the logs were really cool. They were half exposed in a cliff face and you could seen their brethren lying at the bottom of the hill. Eventually, the dirt around the one on the cliff will erode and it will tumble down to join the others.
