This was exciting because i never sculpted an aged face before and i had so much fun. She is granny Weatherwax from the (in case you didn't already know) amazing Discworld books. Her design is of course largely based on the wonderful art by Paul Kidby, however, i wanted to go at least into a slightly different direction since a mass produced bust in that style already exists and i don't see why i should try doing exactly the same thing. Also she is described to be wearing many hatpins so i always found it a bit "weird" that they all looked the same in Kidby's drawings. If i was a witch with many hatpins i'd make them all different! What's the point of having them all be the same, right? =P
When sculpting youthful characters my focus is always so much on making them all completly beautiful which ends up giving them all very boring same-looking faces. Granny Weatherwax really made me throw all of that out of the window and have fun with the human shape, i want to keep that spirit for future works; hopefully without getting too far into caricature..
