no i think they were just normal ones you find in VA

you can find chinese mantids in VA, haha! i live in MD ;3 they're an introduced species, but you can find them. chinese and europeans are the introduced species around here and the carolina mantis is the native one.

i did not know that at all. whats the difference ? color or are the sizes the same?

i know the most about the caroinas and the chinese, as i have had both. carolinas tend to be much, much smaller, females growing to about 2" thereabouts, whereas chinese can grow to about 4" in the girls. female chinese still have the long wings and can fly when not egglaiden. female carolinas have much wider abdomen and 'budwings' which only come halfway down the abdomen. i have photos of both species throughout my gallery if you're interested :>
