A gift for my roommate 
. I really can't speak for the background and atmosphere except to say that this is what came to mind, so I ran with it. I've no idea why there are globes of floating mercury in the air, except that I may have been watching too much anime at the time. My roommate says there is a legend that griffins can fly because they eat something that makes them lighter, so, maybe that's what those things are. XD That's the best explanation I've heard yet!
