One thing led to another. Danathius was sure that this cave held a significant haul of magical artifacts. He was also sure that its owner was away, and that he could use his magic to slip past any traps or alarms that may have been set up. He was also sure that the said owner of the cave was a dragon, given the location and, more importantly, the size of the entrance. He wasn't to be deterred, though -- it would be a quick trip in and out. As soon as he found what he needed, he could teleport away! The plan was simple, effective, easy... And best of all, there wouldn't be anyone else around to mess it up!
Once the mage was inside of the cave, though, he immediately ran into trouble. The incessant yipping of kobolds echoed throughout the walls of low-lit cavern, and the whooshing of chucked spears through the air usually proceeded afterward. The cave wasn't as empty as he thought, but surely a handful of kobolds were nothing to an experienced adventurer like him! The bigger problem arose when poor Danathius encountered a gryphon further along in the cave. Her plumage and feathers were beautiful and alluring -- a deep shade of royal purple. Without leaving the mage any time to cast better defensive buffs on himself, the gryphoness, named Seraphina, overwhelmed Danathius and knocked him unconscious.
When the poor man came too, he felt himself lying on a cold sheet of metal. It was dark, and he couldn't see very well. His hands were bound, so casting any spells was out of the question...but he could feel the walls of his prison, and they were just as cool and slick as the metallic surface upon which he laid. The din of conversation was barely audible, but Danathius could certainly hear two beings talking among themselves... That was when his entire prison shifted, and he slid a little across the slick floor. The walls were pulled away, and light flooded the mage's vision, causing him to squint briefly. He found himself lying on a platter, being brought toward a large dragon casually sprawled atop of a stone platform, jaws agape, ready to receive...well...him!
When Danathius set off on this mission, he was sure he was going to be successful. Now he was sure of one thing: he was going to end up in that dragon's gut.
