Time, flowing like a river
Time, beckoning me
Who knows when we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river
To the sea
Goodbye my love, Maybe for forever
Goodbye my love, The tide waits for me
Who knows when we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river (on and on)
To the sea, to the sea
Till it's gone forever
Gone forever
Gone forevermore
Goodbye my friends, Maybe forever
Goodbye my friends, The stars wait for me
Who knows where we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river (on and on)
To the sea, to the sea
Till it's gone forever
Gone forever
Gone forevermore

Brisby always seemed like a very conflicted character to me. Not just because of the obvious threats she faced in the film but also due to the tragic backstory of her husband's passing. Yet she countered that with a very optimistic and strong personality throughout the course of the story. It gave her a lot of depth as a character, a powerful contrast that kept piling up at the back of our heads. It made me curious about her past and by the end of the film I wanted to know a lot more about her.
We never got to see the loss of her husband and her realization of that. This image was an attempt at exploring that less exposed side of her.

This is a very touching picture, and it always makes me a bit sad to see her having to worry like this. And having to worry about the fate of a loved one is just as bad if not worse than knowing what has happened to them! =( I've often wondered what she thought the night he died, whether she found out from someone about him (she knew by the time she went to see Mr. Ages) immediately or if she figured out after he didn't come back for so long. I kinda believe the former, that somehow word passed around the farm and it got to her. The rats or Mr Ages couldn't have told her since he had to give his condolences in the movie, and she had never met any of the rats before visiting the thorn bush.
But a wonderfully drawn pic, and the light effects give a wonderful sense of atmosphere and the dull colors set the mood, along with her worried expression!

I thought along the same lines. I suspect she just "knew" after a while and eventually got it confirmed by someone like Auntie Shrew. I realized now the picture doesn't necessarily have to be around the time of his death, it could be long after too. Some time ago I toyed around the idea of writing a fanfic/short about her that took place several years after the film had ended, going through some midlife crisis with the children growing distant and moving out, or something along those lines. I suppose the same mood could be applied there. I never got around to make much out of it though.
Thanks for the wonderful comment!

Well, not to be a party pooper or anything, but Don Bluth said, from an email I sent him that he had never intended for a romance between Mrs. Brisby or Justin. I can send you our conversation via PM if you’d like, but I have something else in mind for the sequel as well as a prequel to the first film if you’d to hear about it.
Just of curiosity, have you seen Star Wars or The Princess Bride before, and if so what did you think of either of them? I’d also like to ask what your thoughts on crossovers are.

♫ Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
And if your breath to you is worth saving
Then you better start swimmin' or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'
Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won’t come again
And don’t speak too soon
For the wheel’s still in spin
And there’s no tellin' who that it’s namin'
For the loser now will be later to win
'Cause the times they are a-changin'
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway
Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
And the battle outside ragin'
Will soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don’t criticize
What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly aging
Please get outta' the new one if you can’t lend your hand
'Cause the times they are a-changin'
The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slowest now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fading
And the first one now will later be last
'Cause the times they are a-changin' ♫
