When his chair is destroyed, Professor Rho decides a student will make a proper replacement...
Professor Rho’s New Chair
By: Indi
When Professor Rho waddled into class, his sides brushed against the sides of the door frame as he did. The orange-striped zebra was massive, wider than even some of the elephants on campus. He rather adored his girth, though.
The feeling of his belly bouncing with every step. The way he could take up most of a couch on his own. The ease of which he could bump away students and friends alike. It was the main reason Rho hadn’t bothered trying to curb his recent gains.
Of course there were a few hardships of someone his size.
As the professor settled into the chair behind his desk it groaned loudly in protest. The arms creaked as they were pushed away, and the whole chair seemed to quake a little under Rho’s mass. It’d been making such noises for weeks now, but on that day they sounded worse than ever before.
It was no surprise then when the chair finally collapsed.
Rho yelped, too late to escape the inevitable. He winced and his gut jiggled wildly as he impacted the floor, chair parts scattering everywhere.
The entire class couldn’t help but burst into laughter. While they did so as a group, none were louder and more obvious than Dylan, a hefty frat boy lion sitting in the front row. He bellowed and cackled, nearly to the point of tears. His over the top amusement didn’t escape the notice of Rho.
Embarrassed, and with both ego and rear sore, Professor Rho slowly stood up and brushed himself off. He put on his usual smile, as if nothing had happened. Dylan was still chuckling a little, the only one daring to do so now that the professor had recovered. Rho calmly approached his pupil without a hint of malice.
“That was rather funny, wasn’t it Dylan?” Professor Rho asked. “Can’t remember the last time I proved too much for a chair!”
Some new subdued laughter came from the rest of the class, but Dylan was still loudest. The lion nodded. “It was hilarious!”
The response utterly lacked tact, and it was clear to the whole class it was one of the worst things he could’ve said.
“I guess it was. Now since I’m still sore I’m sure you’ll gladly clean up the mess that entertained you so much.”
Dylan’s smile vanished. Cleaning was the last thing he wanted to do, but the expectant look from Rho was enough to make him realize he didn’t have a choice. “Yes Professor.”
With a loud sigh the lion got up and trudged over to the pile of debris the chair had been reduced to.
Professor Rho followed right behind him, chatting the whole way. “I guess I’m going to need a new chair now. It’ll certainly have to be sturdier than the last one. Thankfully I think I know of the perfect replacement—one with no cost.”
From the pocket of his suit Rho pulled out a strange device that looked like a cross between a stun gun and a remote. He swiftly adjusted a few knobs on the device before zapping Dylan with it as the student knelt down.
Already on his knees, Dylan twitched from the jolt. He suddenly felt horribly stiff. No matter how hard he tried to move he simply couldn’t. He was frozen in place.
“What is it Dylan? Having trouble moving?” Professor Rho asked with a smile as he circled the helpless lion. The rest of the class was confused, not sure what was happening.
Dylan managed a mumbled reply. “Y-Yeah.”
“Good, good. That means everything’s going well. Rigidness and mobility issues are a natural part of the transformation process.
Dylan’s legs had begun to fuse together, slowly shifting until everything below his waist resembled a hard plastic starfish. A wheel formed at the end of each point. The lion let out a dismayed whimper as he realized it looked like the base of an office chair.
“When you get to be as big as me you have to special order quite a few things, including chairs. They’re usually terribly expensive, and take a while to receive and put together.” It was almost like a lecture, with Professor Rho dividing his attention between Dylan and the rest of the class. “However, someone with the right amount of bulk can be the perfect material to turn into a sturdy chair—and for free! Plus I’m sure that gut of Dylan’s will become a delightfully comfy cushion.”
Unable to talk and soon unable to even whimper, all Dylan could do was watch in frozen horror was his body steadily warped to fit the needs of his professor. With each passing second he was less and less recognizable. He looked like crude pattern of himself had been painted onto a chair.
Dylan’s belly became the seat, his chest and face the back. Most of his material was now leather that matched his fur color. The seat back gave the appearance of a stretched lion face if you looked hard enough.
Where Dylan had been mere minutes before was now a stylish office chair.
Rho gave the chair a spin for all to see. “Alright, I think it’s time to see if Dylan really was good chair material!”
The large zebra lowered himself into the new chair slowly, as if to build tension. An incredibly faint creak echoed from it once Rho had placed all his weight on the chair, but nothing like his wrecked one from earlier.
“Now this is comfort!” Professor Rho sighed as he leaned back, a grin on his face. “Dylan is definitely going to work for the time being—couldn’t have hoped for a better seat. Though of course that could change in the future. After all, I’m certainly not getting any smaller. But if Dylan breaks I bet it wouldn’t be too hard to find another free replacement.”
There was unease amongst the fattest students in class as they watched their professor filling up his chair, wondering if they might end up in Dylan’s place before semester’s end...
