I really like how the trifecta in the background are posed and positioned to loom large over the two in combat, almost as if Rok is moderating the fight itself while Rime and the other are adjudicating something beyond just the outcome.

Huh! I get that impression, now that you mention it. It looks to me like Rime and his friend view this as one battle of many - maybe the outcome is inconsequential to them? They do seem to be planning ahead for something, or focused on something else ...
