Following the winding trail out to the dig site, Jessamine and Liane were astounded to find that not a single trace was left of the massive excavation that had been necessary to uncover the Queen's tomb. The area appeared as if it had never been touched! Not even footprints remained!
'This is nearly inconceivable!', Jessie exclaimed. 'I know she didn't want her tomb to be further disturbed, but how could all traces of our work be erased overnight?', she whispered to her equally amazed partner.
'I haven't a clue', Liane replied, starting to shiver, 'but obviously she wielded.....or wields ......some pretty impressive magic to be able to achieve this! And something is making me feel really creeped out. Even more than the changes! Do you feel it too?'
'I d..d..do!', her quivering wife stuttered out, tightening her tail around Liane's leg and pulling her closer . 'It's almost like she, or something, is aware of us being here. I think maybe we should leave, and try to forget even where this place is!'
'I'm with you, my love', the nervous rabbit agreed, 'and moreover I'm thinking we'd better destroy our maps.....anything that could lead someone to this particular spot. I'll sleep much better knowing that we couldn't be responsible for another expedition finding her! Next time we decide to try out our archaeological skills, I think we should look for something far away from Egypt. Like in Central or South America. Both the Mayans and the Incans are pretty fascinating, don't you agree?'
'Absolutely, my darling, absolutely!', Jessamine nuzzled Liane's neck and kissed her cheek. 'Let's go break camp and head for Cairo to catch a flight home. A trip to a nice tropical jungle sounds like a wonderful idea for our next adventure, and we can start researching once we've had a good rest and recovered from this one. And, you know, I'm very glad Jessa left me her dagger. I believe she was right about it coming in handy in the future, though definitely NOT as protection from you! More like protection for both of us from the Goddess only knows what. With your love and the dagger protecting me, I feel darn near bulletproof.'
The pair turned and began the trek back to camp, hugging each other, walking in lock step, and never having been aware of the scrutiny of the ruby eyed spirit that had been perched on a rock nearly at their feet, reading their thoughts and perhaps even inserting an idea or two into their heads while they talked. It disappeared with a little poof as soon as they were out of sight, but never for a moment from then forward lost track of Jessamine and her wife, prepared to make the prophecy of the dagger's protection a reality whenever it might be necessary.

And so it ends, far more peacefully than I had expected, but that's by no means a bad thing. I like that it leaves us with a little mystery, too. Not only how Jessa managed to hide her tomb so completely but, if she's so concerned about privacy, and able to do that, how our intrepid heroines found her in the first place. Then again, it could be she wanted Jessamine to find her, for the specific reasons of passing on the knife and the legacy. It'll be interesting to see how that might affect her future, too. Something for us both to ponder on, perhaps.
I love the story, and the art is gorgeous as ever. Liane and Jessie look so cute together, and I like the peaceful, contemplative feel of the way they're standing, looking out over the dunes. I don't know how they missed that huge lizard with bright red eyes, but I have a feeling it might be just as well they did. Packing it in and going to find new adventures in South America or someplace sounds like a delightful idea.
*Snugs tight* Thank you so much for including my little Jessie in such a wonderful adventure. I know you'll say it's as much for yourself as anything, but it's very kind of you nevertheless and it was such a great story, too!

Always leave your audience wanting more and/or with something unfinished to ponder over.
You're probably right that Jessa wanted her tomb to be found by Jessamine. Though it had to have been a sub-conscious thing, since she was ready to kill the intruders till she had a look at Jessie and realized who she had to be.
I'm so glad you like the story. It was short and to the point, but that can be a good thing too.
I also like that air of peacefulness created by the way Liane and Jess are standing all hugged up together with Jessie's tail snugged around Liane's leg. I think it happens automatically when they get within a certain distance of each other. Ya know?
There is no way they could have noticed the spirit lizard, considering that she didn't want to be noticed. I'd say that is Jessa, or at least a part of Jessa's spirit. Having found her descendant and decided that she approved of her, she wouldn't want anything bad to happen to her. Thus, the dagger being left to Jess and Jessa's spirit watching over her and her love protectively.
I might just have to have the pair go somewhere (or some time) to check out the Mayans or the Incans. I've been kind of interested in the Incan culture since I did a paper on them back in the 6th grade. So, a long time. And visiting Tulum and Chichen Itza, and some of the cenotes and places like that in the Yucatan back in 2014 aroused my interest in the Mayan culture a lot too. They were both very interesting peoples....and of course there are still some of them around. Just not engaged in the same kind of lives as back then.
It's always my very great pleasure to have Jessamine and Liane together for any kind of adventure. Even the kind that never leaves their bedroom. Whether for you or for me, it pleases me approximately equally to do the pictures and write the stories about our ladies. Just keep in mind that it wouldn't be possible without your permission and your invention of Jessamine.

A very good rule of thumb and boy do you it do it so well!
True. I think maybe I phrased that clumsily. I don't think that Jessa knew that Jessamine, specifically, would come on that given day. More that she knew, or maybe simply hoped, that some descendant of hers might someday find her tomb and thus she made it possible for said descendant to find her, when or if they came along.
I do love the business with Jessie's tail. It's a cute little habit of hers, and I can imagine her doing it more or less automatically any time Liane is close to her. It's as good as a hug, while leaving her hands free for other matters, should she need them.
And yeah, that's a good point. I think I missed the part about the lizard possibly affecting their thoughts on the first read through. But it makes sense that a being powerful enough to make her whole tomb vanish without a trace could easily do that. And it's nice to know that it's a benign and protective spirit, too.
I've always been fascinated by the South/Central American tribes like the Mayans. I don't know a lot about them that's really factual, but they seem really neat and I'd love to go exploring someday.
*Hugs tight* They have such wonderful adventures together, too. Even, or maybe especially the ones that never leave the bedroom. I adore everything you've done with them, and it brings me no end of pleasure and pride to have my little Jessamine as part of your family.

Some author said that, I think, and it makes sense to me.
Oh, I don't know. I think you phrased it fine. I just wanted to elaborate on the theme a bit, is all. ;3
I still want to have Jessie do something else fun with her tail. The time will come when it fits in a picture. Meanwhile, tail hugs are a very nice thing. You better believe Liane notices and loves them too!
Jessa might not be so benign to someone not related to her or someone not important to her relation. I doubt that someone who found her tomb and was bent on looting it for valuables would make it in and out in one piece. Those Queens of old could be pretty cold hearted to enemies, and most likely she knew some rather effective ways of messing people up.
Mayans, Aztecs, Incans and I'm sure many others we don't even know the names of were all very sophisticated people. It is being found out that they knew a lot more than one would think. Consider some of their pyramids, for instance, and how they worked as astronomical artifacts. Such as the temple of Kulkulkan. Where at the equinoxes shadow appears as though a giant serpent descends the steps of the temple. New whole complexes of pyramids and cities are constantly being found in Central America in the jungles by use of new technology. I'd love to see these things first paw!!
I love having Jess and Liane have adventures of all kinds. I don't think of Jessie as being part of my family. I think of your characters and mine as being one big extended family. Jess, Liane, Deborah, Molly, Ciara and Niamh, you, me.......I feel like we are all family.

It is said that to this day the bunny will sometimes turn into a fierce and unstoppable demon, possessed of unnatural strength and cruel spirit. It is said she screams like the wind in a storm and is as harsh as the desert sun. Those who know her well refer to this strange madness as 'being awake' and strive to avoid her in those tumultuous times.
No, that was just my usual sarcasm flying in the face of your actual, innocent and lovable antics.
It's entirely possible the story wasn't read, I write for pics and know for a fact that less than half of those who view something bother to read the description AT ALL. So it's quite possible people missed the happy ending of this and are just going with the gut feeling of the series which is 'Mummy's curse thing, like that movie... not the one with Tom Cruise but the good one.'
Me, you can rest assured I read every word, and then deliberately ignored it out of stubbornness.
Also, I am so SO disappointed that you didn't name the queen Jess Hop-tep. I mean C'MON! The pun is right THERE!

You are the strangest person on FA, and that is saying a lot!!

Ok, ok, I'll come clean...
It was actually a sudden disturbance in the space/time continuum that caused a tiny pocket of spatial instability very close to where I was standing at the time and made me lose my balance and almost fall over, so I was trying to grab onto you for support!
*twitches nose innocently and tries to look all cute and sweet*

Okay, so on the plus side, you found the one mummy in the multiverse who isn't hell bent on wreaking horrible revenge on the living, so long as they leave her alone. You got a spiffy dagger, and while you got a bit of a scare, you also have a neat tale to tell when you get home. You also didn't have to scramble to escape from a collapsing tomb, the way so many of these adventures seem to end.
On the negative side, now you might have great-great-great-great grandmother peeking over your shoulder from time to time to see that her legacy is safe. At least the two of you have already had kids, so that should please her.
Love the story, and I love seeing Jess and Liane standing arm and arm, looking out over the sand. It's such a sweet little moment, and every adventure should end with the hero holding the girl in her arms. Jess looks pretty badass with that dagger stuck through her belt, too! Though I might advise finding a proper sheath for it if she's gonna walk very far wearing it like that. Don't want something like that banging against your leg!
You and Nivarra make an amazing team. I can't decide, between this and the story about Kat and Dee, which one is my favorite, but they were both such fun and both the art and the story for this post are amazing!

While Jessa might be keeping an eye on us from here on out, I seriously doubt she's going to make it obvious unless she has to step in to save our skins at some point. And we're both pretty lucky and skilled at defending ourselves, so that is not too likely an event, I think.
I hadn't thought about her being happy to see that her line has already been continued on through Alice and Joan. Good point there. It's likely that she'll find that very satisfying, even if there is some 'slave bunny' blood intermixed with the pure royal blood.
Maybe I'll get Jessie a nice custom scabbard for her birthday, or just because I love her. But she definitely should have one. I agree.
Awwww....thanks for the praise, even though half or more of the credit goes to Salty. The stories alone wouldn't amount to much. At least in this case it wouldn't. The Kat and Dee saga is by far my favorite. Both for the story and the art. The story is kinda cliche in the girl meets boy, they fall in love and get married and have kids sense. But the addition of the transformations, werewolves, magic and mystery help to bring it out of the banal and into the realm of really fun fantasy to me. Besides I really enjoyed how that story just told itself through me. I didn't feel like I was in charge at all during it. It felt as though Kat and Dee were pulling their story out of me, piece by piece! They came to life, and that is something that doesn't frequently happen.

Soooo......it was All an Illusion, probably brought on by Too much Sun or perhaps those Odd berries draggy found and slipped in your tea?
I'm just playing, it's a Beautiful ending and I'm curious now if the rubby eyed lizard is going to start appearing eles where......still, I like my idea of it all just being a Vast and Grand Illusion...
