I updated a guide I made a while ago. Me and Jo decided to fix up some of the examples among the three styles, and I think they look a bit more consistent now!

Here's somethin I've been working on for a bit, cause I've seen a couple artists struggle a little when it comes interpreting Animal Crossing characters into their style, so this guide covers the 3 commonly-done styles in AC fanart.
These three styles focus around tweaking with two things: Height and detail.
Which style you should choose all depends on what kinda picture you're aiming to draw!
The Original style is usually what you see in cute/minimalistic fanart. It's basically what the characters look like in-game, so no fingers/toes, generally stubby and blocky. I'll go ahead and say now that it's not a very good pick when it comes to fetishy pics/situations, as the anatomy is very stiff and limited.
The Hybrid style allows for more dynamic poses/scenarios, while still keeping things cute and cartoony. It's very hard to pull off correctly though, as theres many ways to do it wrong. Though at the same time there's also many ways to depict it, the important thing is making sure everything flows together nicely and looks natural. (So the example used in the picture isn't the only way to draw it, some people depict villagers a bit taller than that for example.)
The Anthro style is usually what you see when most furry artists decide to draw Animal Crossing :v
If you're aiming to draw something fetishy or kinky, this is the best option, as it's not much different than drawing your average human/furry character. It also doesn't require much "straying from your natural art-style" as it focuses more on depicting the character in your own style instead of trying to draw something you aren't used to.
Now if you want my recommendation, here's what I think each style goes well with:
Original: cute-oriented pictures, simple fanart, doodles (If you're lookin to draw fetishy stuff, don't pick this one)
Hybrid: pretty much anything, goes well with any type of picture.
Anthro: Mostly artistic/detailed pics, whether or not this goes well with cute-oriented pics all depends on your art style. (Also the best option for fetishy/kinky pics)
DISCLAIMER: This guide is not meant to be a “how you should draw them” or “how to” guide. You can draw them however you like, this sheet is to just show the the three commonly done styles that seem to have the most consistent results. I’m no artist, but when you’ve seen as much fanart as I have, you start to notice some patterns.
