Right, what do you do when you are unemployed, and stupidly pregnant? Well, I gotta be honest, I don’t have many options. I am short on cash, and even my boyfriend’s job doesn’t pay enough to support me and the pups, so I have no choice but to get a job. I am sure I can find something good with enough space for me to move. But since I didn’t finish college, the closest place from home was a simple job in the cafe.

I HAD to convince them to give me any job I was capable of, even if it sounded silly with my condition. Just give me anything, like cleaning the dishes, serve the customers, clean the restaurant? I practically have to plead him with tears, but I didn’t have to in the end. Borris, the avian manager, gave me the job, and I was finally relieved to actually get somewhere.

Anyway, the next day I headed to the cafe to start my first day of the job. Yes, they actually gave me an oversized yellow shirt and apron that mostly fits on me, I had to get my own skirt for reasons. At least I have a spare one for this occasion. I may as well use my cheerleader skills to good use, and be as nimble and energetic as possible.

For the whole day, I attend most customers. Writing their orders was the easy part, but I wasn’t expecting to deliver their food. I did say I would do anything, but I guess this is what I get for saying so much! It was an impressive act of patient and balance to try to deliver the orders without losing my messing up with the occasional activity of the pups. If it wasn’t for how spacious the cafe was, this task would have been a nightmare. Now that I say that, I guess that is why I was able to get the job in the first place...

At the end of the day I had to painfully clean the floor and tables of the restaurant. Bending over is one thing, trying to fit between tables and clean them with a towel was tiresome. Still, at least it wasn’t too bad. I at least I survive the first day.

Then, it hit me. It hit me REALLY hard. The impact of the kick was so much that it knocked the vase from the table to the floor. Thankfully it was made of plastic, otherwise, it will be another mess for me to clean. But goodness, that was the biggest kick I ever felt from the pups. It was so… unnaturally big. I could have sworn that it wasn’t a baby that stretch my skin that far. Now that I think of it… the movement inside me was a lot more active than usual, and I could feel the bodies shifting as if they were trying to get more space the whole day.

Ah it doesn’t matter, because now I am flustered, and I have to squat to get the vase. I sighed, as I was about to slowly shifting around the chair, then I heard something in the news that got my attention.

“Breaking news, after a long investigation of the dubbed ‘Mega babies’ anomaly has been concluded, is not as uncommon as you believe,” said the news anchor. I was taken aback of what was said. Mega babies? What is that about? I never heard of it until now. I need to know more, so I just keep watching.

“I’m Uriel Marchin, and I am here with Doctor Xandle Orchiel. So tell us more about this anomaly,” Uriel and the doctor were next to each other, like some kind of host show affair.

“Yes, our studies show some interesting results. After 20 years of investigation in England and other parts of the world, we found out that an unusual amount of chemicals that have accumulated over the years has affected many individuals virility and fertility. Although it is uncertain how this happens or the exact numbers of individuals that had contracted this anomaly, at this very moment we have a rough calculation that there is possibly over 47 percent of the population is infected,” Xander explain, even Uriel was surprised from this information.

“That many? You stated earlier that there are other effects from this anomaly?”

“Of course! As the name suggests, not only it increases the fertility of the affected individual but does increase the size of the child or children of the mother. Because of this, many mothers that think are overdue do in fact need more time for their kids to develop.”

“How much longer are we talking here?”

“It depends. Some will take a month, others 3 months or so. But thankfully, only certain genes and blood types are affected by this. So the rest of the population are not affected by this. I suggest that every individual visit a doctor to check if they are infected by the anomaly or if they feel that they are ready to take such responsibility”

“Are you suggesting that it isn’t dangerous?”

“As far as we know the children would grow up normally once they reach the age of 2. The only issue here is for the unaware couples or individuals that are planning or will be having children will have to deal with such responsibility of caring a larger and oversized litter than usual. Some affected countries had already started to adapt to the unexpected increase in the population and are modifying buildings for the larger mothers. But the rest of the world should be aware that we will figure out a cure for this anomaly, if it can ever be reverted at this point.”

I never blink so many times in my life. I then switch my view at my oversized womb. Is this why I have so many kids AND overdue? I just need to be extra sure, so I prod the top of my womb, that usually gets them to rattle up. Before I knew it, there was that hard kick again, and my goodness it was huge! “I should have known this before I had sex with him…”

Took me a long time to get back into the writing mood, but at least I manage to get something done for this piece. In a way it expanded the lore of  spyingredfox's puppers world.
