I'm still under a huge art block so I drew my OC Bailey. I love her sm uwu
I messed with a lot of shading tools and settings and I really like how it came out
I want to give some personal shading tips that I've learned over the months I've been drawing.
1. DO NOT SHADE WITH GREY OR BLACK!!!! This will make your drawing look dead. It will not look good at all, even if you're going for a gloomy mood. 6
I used to make this mistake back then but it never looked good. It just looked dismal and kinda gross.
Colours that you should try shading with is purple, blue, pink or red!
I LOVE shading with purple and red. Mostly red because I like my drawings to have a warm vibe to them. Blue shading is for more gloomy moods and purple is for normal shadings!! Pink can also be normal or warm shadings. It depends on the shade of pink.
2. When shading, you try different settings with the layers! Personally, I have an addiction to the setting, screen, add and divide. These will change your shading and make it look amazing! Just remember to shade on a layer above your lineart and colours!! You also want to shade your lines too!!
I kinda don't recommend multiply. It doesn't look nice for me. That's just me though, I use multiply for line art!! 3
3. Find a light source! Oh man, I used to struggle with this. I highly recommend using references of lighting!! Do not pillow shade, it doesn't look nice at all and it looks like you have no idea what you're doing. There are some cases where it could pass but really, it doesn't look that good. 5
Not to stroke my own dick or anything but if you need to reference, a mediocre example of shading and such, you can use my art! As long as you don't trace and shit, then you're good.
lmao tbh if people were to trace my art, they have low standards because my art sucks dick
4. Experiment!! Try knew things and get out of your comfort zone!!! It's so fun and relaxing sometimes!! Look, if I never got out of my comfort zone, I would have never gotten to where I am now. And if I continue to experiment, I will get even better!! You can be the same way too!
5. Brushes that I RECOMMEND to shade with is, the pencil brush but kinda tweek with opacities and brush settings, acrylic brush (for paintings and lineless) and the pen brush but you must tweek with the brush settings to your preference (the default won't cut it)
You can also buy brushes!! There are some brushes that are fucking amazing and you need to buy them. There are a few brushes that I want to buy tbh.
