The Bahamas has six biological regions, and the Park has all six of them, ranging from pine forest to mangrove swamp to beach. The northern part of the trail includes caves that were carved by wave action millions of years ago, when the islands were still largely under water. The caves are habitats for bats and some species of animals literally found nowhere else. Bones, tools and other artifacts of the Lucayan people have also been found.
