Biography
Born to nobles in the great city of Nubian, Felair didn't know his parents long enough to love them, as they were murdered in a political coup by unknown conspirators. He was then adopted by his uncle Rijad, who sought to raise him as an obedient heir and legacy of his own. Felair didn't care too much for his political machinations, however, and spent most of his time doing what pleased him; mostly combat and magic training, studying, reading, sports games and board games.
Felair had a strong wit that served him well even in games of chance. Clear Felair would make a great military leader, Rajid tried grooming the young unicorn to lead a private army of mercenaries and bandits, which Felair yet again had no interest in doing. Felair was touring the palace when it was raided by a team of assassins, there for the Sultan as well as him, since it was clear no one could control his youthful free spirit. Years of training ensured that he was able to defeat the assassins alongside the palace guards, earning him the prestigious honor of being named the Royal Visir to the Sultan. In this new position, he was able to learn the identity of his uncle as well as multiple other conspirators, who evaded capture and fled into the desert in exile.
Skills & Abilities
As Vasir, Felair holds a ceremonial staff made of gold that consists of a six-foot-long rod with a double-ended spiral unicorn horn curved into the shape of a horseshoe at the top. This staff boosts his magical capabilities, and in addition to being useful as a bowstaff, the adornment at the top can be used to pin or skewer opponents, among other things.
In battle, he operates as a fast skirmisher wielding a falcata and a bronze buckler. The buckler allows him to deflect attacks while leaving him agile and mobile enough to deliver a swift counterattack.
Being a golden desert unicorn, Felair has command of the elements of earth and wind. His golden horn draws upon ancient magics, allowing him to summon sandstorms to blind invading armies, turn desert sand to quicksand, and raise walls of sand and rock to deflect marksman dire, amongst many other things.
Golden Desert Unicorn Lore
Geocorns, also known as Golden Desert Unicorns, are unicorns native to the great desert of Glukoss, the majority of which comprises the great Geocorn nation of Succareht. Geocorns come in many shades of white, tan, and gold, and have a natural affinity for geomancy, the art of magically manipulating the element of earth.
Culturally, most live within the capital of Nubian at the center of the Glukoss Desert, enjoying careers as potters, glass blowers, weavers, painters, thespians, and poets. Geocorn musicians employ a mix of snare drums, xylophones, harps, wind instruments, and lutes to write songs played within theatres and taverns. Outside of Nubian live the farmers, as well as nomads and merchant caravans trading goods between the farms and the lesser cities.
Setting Lore
The continent of Ymagene is a collective of nations of various types of unicorn, nestled away in its own celestial pocket dimension accessible only via dimensional portals that, when closed, only a knowledgeable mage may open. In the day, the sky is a vibrant periwinkle full of colorful and transparent nebulae. These nebulae are fully visible at night along with millions of stars of varying colors and sizes, as well as three moons.
The Geocorn nation of Succareht lies central in Ymagene and consists almost entirely of the vast Desert of Glukoss. The dunes of Glukoss are a pearly white of fine sparkling grains, not of sand but sugar. The desert's dunes of sugar reflect the heat of the sun back into the sky, leaving the region a comfortable 50 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. It doesn't rain in the desert, though, as that would result in all the sugar melting down into an ocean of boiling syrup. Any water in the desert is usually found as a spring fed by an underground river or lake.
Succareht's main export is this sweet commodity, mined in many places and shipped to the other nations of Ymagene by caravan. The capital of Nubian lies at the center of the desert, a massive city of polished marble built over a spring-fed oasis. The crystal-blue waters flow throughout various canals, aquifers, and aqueducts, feeding gardens, flower beds, and fruit trees in multiple parks and along multiple roads and civilian pathways, though also serving as decorations themselves. The Nubian Palace is carved into the side of a plateau overlooking the city, with the top serving as a gathering area for parties with a cooking pit, reflecting pool, and plenty of seating.
