Emergency Feline Blood Transfusion - GOAL MET
Horrible news about my beloved kidney disease cat, Loaf… She’s so severely anemic, that without immediate intervention she will be gone within days. She needs an $1800 blood transfusion as soon as possible. Please, please help me pay for this blood transfusion.
I’m at my credit card limit, I’ve thrown over $12,000 into her treatments in the last year. I’ve cut everything possible from my budget. If she gets this blood transfusion, she will feel so much better. It won’t cure her, but she will not suffocate from within as anemia does.
I’m so sorry to ask like this. I won’t be able to live with myself if I don’t try. Please help her.

[EDIT 1] Chest xrays reveal possible congestive heart failure. Radiologist will get in touch with us tomorrow to confirm. If so, she may not survive the blood transfusion... Weighing our options, and waiting for more information. For now, she's home, has eaten, and is resting comfortably. Will edit this description when I know more.
[EDIT 2] Heard back from the vet today, and we still don't know if a blood transfusion is a good idea... Loaf is technically not in heart failure, but her very enlarged heart is absolutely a problem for a blood transfusion. We're following up with a cardiac specialist to get an ultrasound and a more expert opinion, and in the meantime treating her anemia with a bone marrow stimulant in the hopes it will raise her PCV enough help her. There are a lot of tests and medication additions in Loaf's future. Loaf rested well last night, has a good appetite, is using the litterbox normally, and is still insisting on her daily on-leash walks and cuddling. She is slower, but she's still here and enjoying life!
In the meantime WE HAVE MADE THE ORIGINAL FUNDING GOAL!!! So with things covered, no more donations are needed my lovelies! <3 <3 <3

In all fairness, as a lifelong pet lover, who had to recently say a very heartbroken goodbye to two dog brothers, 15 and 17 years old, you should look into the long-term prognosis. I know it will really hurt to consider, but an expensive blood transfusion just to "delay" the illness may not be in Loaf's best interest. $12,000, needing another $1,800 within mere days in treatments just isn't financially safe. And a maxed out credit card limit, your credit could be trashed from it. You should consider your own well-being too. It sounds sadly like she isn't going to survive very long or improve overall, reguardless of the treatments, even if the vets told you that . You should really strongly consider spending money on giving her comforting, palliative care instead and letting her go as peacefully as possible. It's something I was heartbroken myself to have to do for 4 out of 5 of all my pets, but it was the right choice in their sake.
For real, my deepest condolences to you in this situation, I honestly wish you the best of luck, and truly hope you are able to find donations to meet your goal.

I posted in my Instagram stories. I don't have a lot of followers, but I hope it helps! If you do a post on Insta, I can repost it for you.
Good luck, and I hope you can save Loaf. I lost my cat to kidney failure a few years ago. It still saddens me that I wasn't able to save her (couldn't afford a transplant, and it was the only option) so I hope by spreading word, I can help save yours.

I don't know. I just have to say it.
$12,000 for a cat? That's like, enough money to buy a decent used car. It's a full year's rent for a decent apartment. I mean like, seriously, I think this probably needs to be a discussion about priorities.
Having been a pet-owner many times, myself, I fully understand how much we can come to love our pets. But this...
I've grieved the loss of more than one pet, and loved them dearly, but I would never consider spending $12,000 on one of them. A couple of hundred here, a couple of hundred there, to of course ensure proper inoculations and such, and maybe a thousand or so for an operation which I knew would save a pet's life, and hopefully ensure a long, happy life afterward. But a terminally ill pet?
No.
There comes a juncture where common sense over love of a pet has to prevail. First, one has to ask themselves if they can afford it. Moreover, will the pet benefit from it - meaning, will they enjoy a long, happy life afterwards? In yours and Loaf's case, if you're honest with yourselves, the answer to both questions has to be no.
The best course at this point, is probably a quiet, merciful euthanasia. It might seem grim. It might seem heartless. But what you are doing to yourselves, and to Loaf, has got to seriously come into question.

I have people at my work that have probably spent way over that for their great dane that they have. They've told me about all the treatments she's gotten and there's a lot more that she has to go through here this month to make sure she's going to be able to keep living and keep walking. Because this is where I walk a completely different line. There's many people I wouldn't spend that much money on to help them, but if I had it I wouldn't even have blinked if it meant I could have tried helping my dog to live longer. Just because they're animals doesn't mean they don't deserve everything we can give them. I mean hell just think about what kind of money that people have to shell out going to hospitals. Just because some people think they are more "worth it" or "deserving" because they're "higher beings" or whatever crap doesn't mean they deserve it anymore than the animals in our lives.
This is not your call. This isn't even your place to SUGGEST. I have been Loaf's caretaker for over a decade, I don't need a stranger's view on this. I know her health intimately, I have been treating her kidney disease for a year. I know what I'm willing to do to help her, and my husband and I carefully consider each step before we take it. I am doing everything I can, and when the time comes, I will help her pass too. But this? HARDCORE overstepping your bounds here my guy. You are doing nothing but rubbing salt in the wound.
