Butterfree was a Pokemon I never felt a huge attachment to, but usually ended up using at the very beginning of the game. Because I like fire Pokemon I'd always pick Charmander as my starter, and we all know how badly he sucks against the first gym leader. Butterfree wasn't that great either, but at level 12 it could learn confusion, which had enough power behind it to blast through the first gym. No other Pokemon you could catch (as far as I know) could take out Brock's Pokemon as easily, unless you started with Bulbasaur or Squirtle of course.
Here is Butterfree trying to pull a berry off a tree! I was going to make it a cherry at first, but being that Caterpie was eating an apple earlier a cherry just doesn't make any sense. So instead I figure its just a big Pokemon berry instead, maybe one that restores health or cures paralysis. Either way it does look yummy. :)

In Fire Red/Leaf Green (and ONLY those versions) Charmander can learn Metal Claw which does excellent damage against Brock's gym so that serves well, but he learns it later than Butterfree can learn Confusion so, pfff.
This is an adorable Butterfree though! I always found them kinda cute for some reason.
