I borrowed several things for this chapter from Robert Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" Zim's name for one, and the fire ant encounter, with a slightly different ending. I'd been hinting at this since "America". Many thought this was the end of his Air Force aspirations, but you'll see with the next chapter.

Also, remember the nature of the world of The Beach Bears is somewhat similar to the world of Zootopia. The species get along less well than races do in our world.
The United States is almost unique in the Beach Bears world in that it is trying to get the species to rise above their species interests to support higher causes. I'll touch on this in a future chapter.
