Leandre's research notes #PRI-001:
"Wahey! It is Pride month! What better time of year to be a sexually colourful person and show it to the world? But certain individuals seem to have trouble getting into the spirit of the holiday. Good thing I am here to lead by example. It is all about showing support to as many groups as you possibly can simultaneously! I love everybody!"
Happy Pride month everyone!

I didn't know there was a wrong way or a right way to celebrate pride. As far as I'm concerned, whether any of those flags apply to you or not, it's nice to see someone who's willing to happily, nay enthusiastically support others for who they are. So yeah, I'm with the happy, flag waving feline over the grumpy wolfy any time. And I'm quite impressed with your sense of balance and ability to keep that flag balanced on your nose, too!
I know, right? I guess the wrong way might be to be too frightened to step on anybodies toes so you end up doing nothing at all? But I think everyone should just be having fun the way they feel suits them best. That is the spirit of Pride after all, right?
But yeah, getting that last flag up there onto my nose was definitely the hardest part. I don't even know what flag that is, but I sure do support their sexual preferences!

I suppose that is the heart of the debate... are people actually doing this to seek acceptance, or is it simply to seek attention and gratification.
I get the sensation as time will go that pride month will become increasingly hectic and possibly violent. With so many "prides" popping left and right,
conflict is bound to worsen every passing years. "Pride" is a very loosely defined term, incredibly subjective to one's experience.
It's not that there shouldn't be pride. It's just that it's not what it used to be... and certainly not as noble or virtuous as it once used to be, especially with all the
corporations barging in, trying to capitalize on the event.

In all due respect, I beg to differ.
Pride month certainly used to be virtuous in its nature, especially when homosexual marriage was still illegal and frowned upon. And there is still inequalities to be addressed in that fashion, though, the more time goes the more it seems we're forgetting these issues and instead indulge in the things you've said: Feel safe, get drunk, hook up, swag and argue about politics.
Not that there shouldn't be such things, mind you, but it shouldn't be the bread and butter of it.
And if it is, then it will become yet another commercial festivity. Fun, but perhaps a bit more shallow in its meaning.

We've always indulged in such things.
It's ahistorical to think we didn't. Stonewall was a tavern for drinking. An illegal, mob-run one at that. Virtuous behavior wasn't what was being defended.
They're inextricably linked. It's not a bad shallow to love, to want to be love, to be able to love every day of the year and so the celebration has spilled across more than a single event.

You are misinterpreting what I've said.
I didn't say drinking and partying wasn't part of it. On the contrary.
What I said is that there used to be something noble attached to it all. Despite the "debauchery" there was still an incentive for change. Change that needed to occur at a legal level.
Pride parades often helped to push that message forward, sensitizing people to these issues.
I went to many parades myself (being gay) and could definitely see that aspect in it as well.
Now however, it sees much less prominent than it used to be. Can people still party? Love, drink and all that? Of course. But the festivity has lost quite a bit of
meaning in its approach since then. At least, I think it did. Moreover, it became increasingly commercial since its debut.

I can't really speak to this from personal experience since I have never partake in any of the actual events or even the general discussion. I suppose that is something that is bound to happen to any movement that is increasing in popularity. Eventually you reach a number of people that you are bound to run into irredeemable different opinions represented within the same group of people. So yeah, I imagine conflicts will be increasing as time passes. In part, that is one of the aspects I was trying to poke fun at with this silly little cartoon. You can see two very different takes on the subject represented here and it's leading to conflict.
I can't speak for the pride community at large. I have never been good at (or really interested in) the politics of bigger communities. I guess I am just very naively happy for those people who find acceptance and happiness in this, and I don't really want to take it any further than that.

XD this, is fantastic XD you understand the true meaning of pride month, truly. Screw what inkwolf says your doing it absolutely right and he's just a sour puss cause he doesn't have any flags to wave himself! maybe if you gave him some of your's he'd be a bit more in the spirit of things! o3o
Ohh right, should definitely start waving flags too! *Shade starts waving country flags, while Em starts doing some of the flags you have, only not as many, as she doesn't have the umm...clothing to carry a few of them* Weeee heheehe this is great! why dont we do this every month again? *Shade shrugs* something something social stigmas i dont know, just enjoy it! *Em nods and drops a flag, it being the full rainbow striped one as she looks at Inkwolf now* ummmm you can have that one! yeah! hehehe
Not only being to show who you are, but also normalizing it for the rest of the year....
It needs to be shown to everyone that having a certain sexuality means that you're just a normal person who just happens to be attracted to This or That
In that regard I could say I'm against some of the behavior shown at some of these pride events... rather than making it look like a certain sexuality is normal it does the opposite... or puts it on a pedestal above the others... when it should be about how it's normal and how everyone's choice is equally valid
I'm all for people being proud of their sexuality but it shouldn't come at the cost of the pride of others.... be it ones who have the same sexuality as a group (from embarrassment at being lumped in with a certain kind of behavior)... or ones who identify differently and are alienated by a different group
