On Tuesday, June 19, My baby was acting like she was ill. Looking her over it felt like her stomach was bloated, so I took her to the vet. Turned out that my vet discovered she was bleeding internally. An ultrasound found a large tumor on her spleen that was compressing it. Dogs do NOT need their spleen. It's like a human appendix and can be removed with a full recovery. So if the cancer was nowhere else, removing the spleen with the tumor would have let to a full recovery. So I rushed her to an animal hospital for emergency surgery...
But when they had her on the operating table and opened her up It turned out it was NOT her spleen that was bleeding. It was her liver. The cancer was inside her liver just eating it away to the point that the surface was splitting and cracking to the point of bleeding. There was no way to stop it... and no way she would ever survive more than 2 days. I told them not to wake her up.
She will be cremated Today, 6/21/. My baby is gone... and so is most of my sanity at this point. And my grief is more than I can bear.
I love you Mushroom. I don't know what I'm going to do with you gone now. :(

i did not know that dogs too don't need their spleen! it's amazing how animals have evolved similarly to us primates...
i'm sorry to see her pass, but she's had a good life with you, and you made her the happiest anyone could have ever. you found out what was causing her sickness, and though you couldn't save her, she died with someone she loved, and that's more than any animal could ask for.
thanks for taking care of such a beautiful dog.
always think back on the positive, happy memories that you and her shared together. that's what's most important. not birth, not death, but the things that brought you joy.

*Hugs* Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear this.
Losing a pet is never easy; but when it comes about so unexpectedly, it really hurts the most.
I can only imagine what you're feeling right now.
Just hang in there and try to remember her for all the years of happiness you shared, and know that you gave her a loving home in return.

I was torn apart when my beloved Oreo ( border collie mix with collie) got very thin one day then the next day before I got home she died and I never found her, she had left to die.... never got to say goodbye or bury her The pain of loosing a pet is one of the worst and I hope all who go through it heal well
I'm sorry for your loss and sorry you had to endure the roller coaster of hope. The decision for surgery alone is emotionally draining. Obviously you gave her your all throughout your life. I lost my beagle a few years ago suddenly, and while it hurts like hell, I promise you will heal.
