On the way up to the family Christmas trip me and my parents stopped at Valdosta, GA for lunch. Instead of stopping at one of the chain resturants I requested actually going downtown and eatting someplace local.
Valdosta and it's surrounding area is acutally going to be a setting for my "Stag" comic when I start making it. It's combination of being touristy (a lot of people going to Florida go through here.) and podunk-y (nobody ever acutally visits the town.) makes it kind of a fun setting for a story.

The setting provides serveral things that are siginificant to the comic's themes
I don't want to reveal too much of the plot, but has a theme somewhat borrowed from "The Prince and the Pauper" and "The Whipping Boy". The rock band "Stag" is made up of a bunch of prima donnas that have more money and fame then they know what to do with. I figure the best way to create a story out of that is to somehow have them stranded in blue-colar America.
The comic will have a lot of political themes to it, many that compare the turbulant 60's and 70's with some of the stuff that goes on today, I feel the 70's deep south would be a good stage for this since civil rights would still be very much an issue there, religious-right politics would be just rearing it's ugly head, and the band itself would face severe anti-hippie sentiment.
And finally for the comic I plan to introduce an American rock band that would be somewhat competitive with Britan's "Stag." Since stag is distinctly British for being a glam rock band like Slade, Sweet or David Bowie, I figure a distinctly American equivilent would be a southern rock band like Molly Hatchet, ZZ Top, or Lynard Skynard. The band would be full of it's own prima donas and would echo Stag's members in many ways.
