Chins are my absolute favorite rodent pet. I used to work at a petstore, so I got to know the different varieties of fuzzy critter pretty well.
They're not as prone to biting as hamsters are, they're not as prone to randomly killing each other as gerbils are, they don't stink like rabbits and guinea pigs, and they live a lot longer than mice or rats.
About the main drawback with Chillas is that they need to be handled quite a bit, and from a very young age, or they can become skittish. The ones we breed are handled daily from the day they're born; we work really hard to socialize them to make them ideal pets. We hold them progressively more as they get bigger; at first they're just picked up for a daily health check, and then as they get bigger and more active, we play with them for longer and longer and play with them more.

:o interesting.
I'm more of a handling person, not in the "lovey" dog way, which irritates me like my Saint Bernard.
Generally I'm a large animal person, since if someone lands on someone, I'm generally the one which is squished. I find myself looking for a smaller pet. I was looking at many small animals, from fennecs to rodents.
